High CPU usage with wine

Post by zal »

Hi,

I'm always the only one with a CPU usage of 100% when I play to TASpring. I'm using TASpring with wine, on a A64 3500+ with 1GB PC3200 CL2 and no other application, I have a Geforce 6200 TC with 128MB and Nvidia proprietary driver, my resolution is 1280x1024, I use the default graphic settings (low), this should never happen !

Any idea ?

Thank you,

Zal

Spring has a lot of work to do besides graphics (actually, graphics are the easy part.) wine doesn't help, but isn't a huge factor; native executable eats 100% cpu on almost every machine.

Do you mean 100% as reported by Spring (and visible to the others in game too), or 100% as reported by Linux?

If the first, that's weird with those system specs.

If the last, that's normal, just like most games (as far as I know) spring takes as much CPU% as it can get (to get as much frames per second as possible), so that'll always be close to 100% if no other programs are running. If you minimize spring however, it stops redrawing the screen and you can see how much CPU it really uses (for simulation).

Could you press b in game to see how much frames per second (FPS) you get?

It's 100% ingame, yes.

I'll type "b" the next time it happens.
