The biggest problem with online games...

Post by Kixxe »

Is balance.

Balance over a lot of things actually: Balanced maps, balanced weapons but most importantly, balance over players.

By that i mean FAIR TEAMS and PEPOLE OF YOUR OWN SKILL LEVEL.

I've never, EVER, seen a game where I've been able to play for 3-4 days, and then find players of my own (or slightly below ) skill level. All i find is experienced plp ganging on less experienced people (that's why i hate gunbound), games with horrible teams (I don't play a lot of CS anymore) and finally, players with a skill level way above mine (which pretty much rules out the entire multilayer library, including spring).

This annoys me to great length, since most of the goals in the game (and ergo, the rewards) are based on winning, having a chance of winning, or at least accomplishing something. Feeling you make a difference, or do something cool like sniper some guy, or take a important objective instead of dieing horrible after 2 seconds.

And another thing that annoys me is how game producers forgets the AI...
prettier graphics, but oh, the units still cant get around a barrel and in the end gets stuck in midair thanks to some box, screwing their animation up and making them look like they're having a seizure.
Or when your fighting 2 sides at once (flood&covenant, combine&zombies) is that everyone wants to kill you. As soon as your discovered, forget about alllll the firefight and just go RAGH at the player. I can't just let them battle it out, cuz then i " miss the excitement".

BLAH, RANT! >:O

World War 2 Games FTW there. A guy can be the best pro ever in CS, but give him a bolt action and he's useless :P

Not really, a rail gun's a rail gun, no matter what game you put it in. That's why people whine about the AWP in CS. The top CS pro's dominate if you put any FPS in their hands, they might not be able to compete with the top UT2k4 pro's but they would easily compete with the lower ranks, simply because their reaction speed in centering a target is inhuman, and they very quickly develop the logic to optimizing whatever game they play, due to having to situationally adapt a million times through out their gaming career. Most of the top CS pro's came out of the quake scene, and many of them multigame anyways.

As someone very familiar with this issue, my stance on this is that it's basically impossible to find equal skilled players pubbing, for virtually any game if you want to find players in your skill range to play you need to join the competitive ranks. For most games if you aren't good enough to be a competitive player someone will pity you and train you to the point where you can make the bottom ranks.

The biggest problem are the retarded ^^ players xD you are forced to play with. Kids (up to 25+) and internet don't go well together.

I disagree. Kids (up to 25+) and the internet are like politics; 90% of the kids give the other 10% a bad reputation.

And that's what I usually get to play with unless I can convince some of my friends. You probably haven't seen many^^ german^^ gamer xD kids!!1 yet... though they begin to populate spring as well. They're like the mentally challenged brother you make fun of but never wanted.

Did you ever played CoC (call of combat) ? Its a game where there is always someone you beat easly, someone you fell that is your nemesis and someone that crushes you completly... :-)

In TA spring I fell that or a person is in the same level as me or its better but oh well I will get better. :-)

That video is made up by the way... that kid made some more useless videos and put them on youtube I think. However that's not the average german gamer, they're older, unemployed and live off the welfare.

Just on the topic of AI, i just replayed part of HL2 and noticed something...

you know that scene where that huge striders bursts trougth the colapsed wall behind you and goes crazy? well, i've noticed, that it ONLY aims at you. So if you crouch behind a container, your allies can fire at it and it won't do a thing.
