To set Spring off from OTA I think a solid first step would be to somehow add the ability for emitters to be placed on units or buildings.

Now, adding x,y,z coord's in an existing file, or adding a new dir in the HPI file, either way it would be nice.

That way, a powerplant could vent smoke, or a near infinite number of options with emiters. "smoke screen" units, for example :)

That reminds me of the emit-sfx sfx-type from piecename; command in old TA scripting. I need to test if that's already handled by Spring.

Damaged units smoke. Get a high enough 'refire rate' in a common unit's script, and you'll have a thick stream of smoke coming from wherever you wish.
