SWS Plane designs?

Post by Zoy64 »

When i was playing SWS, I built a lot of aircraft, and it looked like they were forming a design or something; but the game wouldn't allow me to build any more (unit limit i guess). What are they making, and is that supposed to happen?

It's a formation if the units have a starting AI or you set one they will fly in formation. I've never actually heard of that happening though. :-)

Could be how you set up the Rally Point. I had wings of Tie units once along a cliff. Very cool beans.

You should have taken a screenshot!

And for no particular reason at all, here's a taster of one of the new-look TIE's you'll be playing with in our next release...

When i look at it, no matter what faction, it looks like a rebel symbol.

And the aircraft wont do this when im playing XTA, just SWS.

IMO the radiators of TIE fighter series in the new SWS are too thick, twice as thick as the real ones.

XD

Is that intentional in any way? Or possible at all?

I think it is impossible to have it set up in such a way :P

Sweet coincidence..

I promise you. I did not do that. It did it by itself. I'm not one to lie. :-)

So what exactly did you do to make them do that? Just tell us the way to recreate this hilarious scene and we'll know that you're not lying. (I'm not saying that you are lying, just that you must provide evidence in order to convince people.)

What i did was i went to Speedmetal duo (or any map with big spaces) and I built an adv. aircraft plant. I set a rally point and I order a large quantity of planes, about 100 of each except missleboats. I swear, That's all i did. Promise.

Oh yeah, if you move them or they move for any reason, they won't do this.

Scale is an interesting.

It sounds like its an emergent property of the way that Spring aircraft align themselves as they exit factories, as well as the shape of the units themselves.

In SWTA:War In Space for OTA, starfighters would tend to align themselves in a external starburst formation.

i think we can assume that the biggest factor concering the shape are the stats of the aircraft involved like speed acel braking turning yadda yadda yadda. instead of making all different types of ships just make one and see if u get the same effect.

lol, I can tell you that I had nothing to do with it.

Could well be that Gnome put it in as an easter egg; that seems a pretty incredible coincidence other wise...

Yep, this is just a super mega uber coincidence.

I was messing around with a mod earlier today (Trying to make a Spring flight sim sort of deal), and made the hawk buildable by the commander to test out flight mechanics. Told him to build a plane on the one spot, put him on repeat, sped the game up, and the planes started pumping out in a shape much like this (the 'arms' were slightly narrower probably due to the dimensions of the hawk).

Surprisingly, this is just a part of the engine.
