Could the threshold value for "air=1;" and "ground=1;" for rendering purposes be set higher from the ground's actual height value... to, say, 48 units or higher for air, and 47 units or lower for ground? This would make it possible to have, say, a Nuke that looks completely different when airbursting as opposed to how it works now, where just about all of my FX have to have "air=1" in order to render correctly when hitting ground targets. Better yet, let us define that in some global setting, per mod, so that mods with much different scalar representations, or units that are extremely tall, can still be visually accurate.
