On how many distros will this work? (Assuming you want to distrib standard binary, not statically linked)

Debian testing, it's derivatives and latest Ubuntu should work using only one .deb, assuming that dependencies are not chosen in an overzealous way.

Also check out swiftfox (http://getswiftfox.com/).

Kloot. Make one for Ubuntu, and I'll host it. It needs to include a stable version of whatever linux lobby we are standardizing on, though. Is there a stable linux lobby that supports joining games? Or actually, we could just put it on unknown-files.

Agreed that it should come with a lobby.

BTW, I can only create balls for amd64, I don't have 32-bit versions of all the required libs installed ATM.

Better make the lobby a separate package that's suggested by the actual spring.
