.:Map Re-Release:. EvergreenHaven Redux - White line fixed

Post by Forboding Angel »

A remake of my map EvergreenHaven. Concept originally taken from RapierX' Evergreenhaven for OTA.

This one is expanded to 16x16. New texture featuring bumpmapping. Don't drop the soap!

<rant> If you have any more complaints... Blow me. 9 and 1/2 hours spent on fixing that fucking line. If you don't like it shut up and go to hell </rant>

On another note, you could just download it to make me feel better.

Noize, I'mma look into remaking the 12x12 if I can manage to make it look decent.

Nice map ... only one tiny small thing I see that needs fixing. Their is
a white strip on the top and the right of the map that needs to be
textured.

unfortunately I can't do anything about it atm untill I figure out why it happens. It has something to do with the bumpmapping and the lighting source. Beyond that I dunno. :(

I don't personally find it all that annoying (it's annoying because I'm not sure how to get rid of it, but it doesn't annoy me while playing).

Hmm, at first when reading GenBlood's post i figured that the strip he was talking about may only be a pixel or so in width, but DAMN, its friggin huge dude.

Like, its seriously detracts from the overall asthetics.

Otherwise it looks very nice. But damn thats a bad strip.

The textures look a bit blurry Imo Angel, not crisp like your normal deliveries.

Generally the map looks really nice

Trying some different tiles that are lower quality than what you've been using on your other map releases?

Maybe it's just me, but are the detail textures removed for the new map format in place of bumpmapping?

This isn't new map format... the bumpmapping is actully faked into te texture. His just disabled the detail texture (or i assume he has I havn't had a look yet).

New map format wont need a detail texture as each "tile" is way more high res anyway.

Looks pretty good,

well i guess you can just photoshop that white line away?

Also pls make a 12x12 map... making it 16x16 will make it significant slower.

I just played it. Twas fun. Dispite the white border.

Photoshop does help tho.

a 12 x 12 would be cool too. But 16 x 16 is also quite fun. And the game i played was just my pace, so i enjoyed it. Got some pretty screenshots out of it too! :-)

don't have nmuch time to post

THe blurryness is springs mipmapping. Get closer and it won't be blurry anymore.

the white strip is because I processed the light source atmosphere as being white (makes the texture brighter) instead of being yellow (color of sun as well).

Meh fuckit. I didn't figure anyone would care so dang much. I'll go back and redo it as yellow.

Yes, when I do baked bumpmapping I remove the detail texture, because the detail texture interferes with good clean texturing. Detail tex is there for low detail texturing so that it can still look decent. If you ahve high quality texturing then detail tex just messes it up.

And damnit, there already is a 12x12. You mean youw ant me to retexture the 12x12? Or you just didn't realize there was an evergreenhaven (made by me) before? I'm confused.

Its impossible to please all of the masses. I say this. Do what u want, cause ur the mapper, ppl who like the map will play it, ppl who bitch about the white line and the size probably won't. (or they might anyways cause they are friends with the guys who do like it and they want to play a game on it!)

The line is a minor annoyance, but ultimately i'd say that if anything, u should probably take it up with Aaron seeing as how its his program that made the line.

But yeah, can't make 'em all happy. Welcome to my world!!! XD

it just sucks, cause I see a lot of crappy maps on UF and some posted here that don't look all that hot, yet they recieve praise while if I don't achieve 100% perfection... No one's happy. It's pretty annoying :(

I'll just redo the damn thing with a yellow sun (which btw gives a 1 pixel black line on the edge but no one ever noticed).

I just like the way the texture turned out with a white sun :(

I could photoshop it, but I don't like the way it looks that way.

:(

I want the sm3 shaders goddamnit! </piss and moan>

lol I realize that was spoken is sarcasm, but I appreciate the humor lol  8)

I just had a really neato idea I wanna try out on it as well, so that gives me a good reason to redo it anyway :P

The only reason you get so much critisisim, is because you are the BEST map maker in the community. and every single map maker strives to make a map as good as you.

so when you make a mistake, it comes at such a shock, that all everyone wants to do is help you make the map as good as it should be.

the best way for them to do that is to suggest how it could be better, even if it means giving a dumb idea like photoshoping the texture (like you wouldn't have tried that already)

I think the main problem is that you are so advanced in Map making that whenever you experiment with something new, the rest of the community is still thinking along the lines of the old method and can't comprehend what has happened

Please Keep up the Good work. I know that every map you make has a long process before you even start making it. and an even longer process before you release it. It's just hard sometimes to remember that when we look at your masterpieces.

@mastermat

Wow thanks dude. THat's one hell of a compliment. Thank you.

On another note... I FIGURED IT OUT WOOHOO!!!!

I'm an idiot. It was my mosaic tiling. I was using supersmall 128x128 tiles for the light map (it's pretty processor and memory intensive). For some reason using too small of tiling causes L3dt to look around like a tard saying "huh?".

YAY! New version coming soon!

Forb, just leave the map the way it is, fuck em if others don`t like it let them make their own maps. 8) Personally I have finished maps I like, but won`t be making available here because of all the fucking bitching and complaints about this and that, the maps too big,,, I don`t like the texture,,, what about features,,, can u make a 12 x 12 version, I swear what is it with 12 x 12 maps If you don`t have the hardware to run a 16 x 16 spring map, or larger; buy a better computer or move into a game genre with typically lower system requirements than Spring.
