Making some trees while waiting for transparency support

Hey!
Aside from GC ive decided to make a tree feature pack with differant kinds of trees, including summer trees, sub-tropical trees, winter & summer pine trees, shrubs and desert trees as well as jungle/tropical trees.

Here is a picture of the first tree that turned out half-decent, the blue box represents the size of a infantry trooper in GC:

Hmm, thats how big infantry are.. Is that a super sized tree? (compared to the normal one..)

not really supersized... its scaled to fit GC since making the models really small = bad for collisions (regardless of the next version's fixes better safe than sorry)

About the tree sizes: It seemed good for a big tree, but some will be smaller ofcourse.

Jungle trees, in various shapes and sizes :) Some with dangly bits and others without. Do you have any requests of other jungle foilage that you'd need? Shrubs and the likes perhaps?

Looks good so far, now put it in some map.
I'd like to see some giant mushrooms or something, you know arm and core are fighting all across the universe and some maps would be really cool with some alian plants. Similiar to the tibierian plants of C&C 3.

Not possible to put ingame yet as they rely heavily on transparency in the texture trough an alpha channel or some other method. It's been hinted that it will be in the next release however and so i have some time making the pack. Some far out vegetation might be made later on but for now im focusing on a set of trees that can be used for any setting, wether scifi, historical or present-time.

lookin pretty good... I'd suggest to make the trunks a tad less green, and possibly add more variance to where the dome hits the end of its polys with the transparencies... so that they look less like mushrooms...

maybe add and extra poly or two on the tops to add depth to the leaves...

I was gonna do some swamp trees and such when transparencies come out... but yeah, I might just add mine to yours and make a pack... the more the merrier you know :wink:

keep it up.. I'm happy not to be the only dedicated feature modeler around anymore.. :P

edit:

those trees still look to be approx 100-110 polys each too...

you might want to consider thinking of ways to reduce that polycount further... its kinda high..

I want the shrooms to look crazy cool too, like shrooms drawn by some 60s hippy who has been in fact eating shrooms. It has to be that fucking awesome looking.
