Screenshots, etc., soon. I've been given an unexpected grace period due to a last-minute holdup in Spring's release, so I'm going to work a bit more on something... special
And yes, it will be in the GPL version of Spring. There will be a more tradtional release, too, which will have XTA in it, don't worry. But mine will be the smaller download

The developers not quite sure when that's happening yet, but soon- we're talking days, not weeks.
The current version's requirements are actually a lot closer to 0.2's then 0.3-0.4 were.
Let me put it this way- with well over 700 units in play... I get 16FPS with
shadows and reflective water on, on NanoArena with full-on combat brewing, due to Spring 0.73b's icon code reducing the drawing load and the many other things I've done to optimize the mod for Spring and to make use of the latest bleeding-edge features. I have a 2500Mhz processor and a GeForce 7800. Your mileage will, of course, vary somewhat.
As for the argument that it's just a "spam fest"... well, I would say that this version has a huge amount of new subtleties in it. But it was already very subtle. If you actually want to win playing NanoBlobs, then you need to use a lot of micro. Just "spamming units" gets you dead. If your friends think that, then they are welcome to come get pwnd by me at some point

I've actually played a couple of good players, and then it gets downright fascinating, imo- if you don't know what you're doing, then you can lose, fast- and victory includes a lot've tricks and nasty feints.
Maybe I should do some replays of me beating my own Spawn script on NanoArena, when we're at release status. I consider this the "first dan" of any serious player, because it spits all of the units types at you fairly quickly, and teaches you defense and offense, on a map that's completely balanced. When you can play, knowing that the enemy is going to be throwing multiple Demons at you behind hordes of Everything Else, you are ready to actually take on another human player
