1337 vid card deal?
I was browsing computer stuff when I came upon this:
http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/ ... 2&NoMapp=0
Thats an HIS Radeon X1300
512MB GDDR2
PCI Express
...
76.99$.
Canadian.
This is definatly not the time to be buying expensive hardware, but I thought this was an extremely good deal. A 512mb GDDR2 card for UNDER $80? And this isnt some ancient chipset either. So if you need a vid card but don't want to spend to much since everythings changing, I reccomend this.
I guess...am I missing somthing? Something thats making it so incredibly cheap?
I'd problably get this if I had a PCI-E mobo.
PS: No, it dosnt get to that price using those annoying mail-in-rebates TigerDirect uses. Thats the actual price.

TFIS doesn't say anything about buying parts from tiger direct, frankly the way they word the article makes it sound like a load of bullplop. Find a large company anywhere that doesn't have at least one instance of customer dissatisfaction. Tiger doesn't manufacture parts, if you buy from a trusted manufacturer I don't see how tiger can screw it up any more then damaging the shipment, in which case they are obligated to replace it. I wouldn't buy a prebuilt from virtually any company at all, tiger not withstanding.
It's a budget card so either way it's going to suck.
Anyway, I believe that it comes with 128MB not 512MB.
Have you ever bought a motherboard with onboard graphics that use your system's memory so when you start up your system you have less in the OS? That's what these cards do.

It only has 128MB RAM but can use your system's RAM as well.

PhysX cards suck, And you can't have more than 2 cards in a system, No motherboards support it. You can have SLi, or a single card + PhysX. Not only that, The only thing PhysX does is make cloth and water look better.Orakio wrote:http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatalog/7900_Series.html

Not entirely true, it can simulate insane amounts of any type of particles, check the movies at the PhysX site.Not only that, The only thing PhysX does is make cloth and water look better.
But it does depend on the game whether it is used or not.
Also Havok, another game physics lib (AFAIK used by HL2 and Unreal) is working towards a physics system accelerated by graphics cards, so I think you can better spend the money on extra graphics power in any case.
Really? I thought PhysX was plain old PCI.
"The image of this card shows both PCI and PCI Express support on the same card, though we are told by AGEIA that this won't be a retail feature but it is included on the developer cards for their testing purposes only. The first release of the PPU cards are going to be in PCI form with PCI Express versions coming in 2006 when the additional bandwidth or demand requires. "

Im looking for vid cards for people that dont have $500 to spend on vid cards... I suspected it may go down to 128mb ram, problably why it was so cheap. Caydr, I really doubt a 300 diffrence really makes as much as a performance diffrence as you say. My 9600 pwns my integrated graphics, and thats way older.
But if you have half a grand to spend, go ahead and buy a Nvidia
. Thats problably cause they spend more making their cards look pretty and you end up paying for it.
I did look at the one caydr suggested though, around $150, not a bad deal for such an up to date card. I don't wanna risk ebay for somthing that expensive though...ive had some bad experiances with buying used.

Don't buy used, buy new, on ebay. I got the 7800 GS I'm using now brand-new in shrinkwrap for only about $50 less than it'd cost in the store... except for one thing: no tax. Saved $50 on tax. $100 altogether savings on what would otherwise be a $400+ card sounds pretty nice to me.
Like I've said before - all you have to do is eliminate store overhead from the cost of any product, and you save at least 10% usually.
~~~
That 7300 GS you show there is a heap of trash. Supports 512 with turbocache. Means there's not 512 onboard, but you can dedicate some of your physical computer RAM to it. A, this reduces the amount of RAM your programs have to use, B) turbocache'd ram doesn't perform anywhere near as fast as RAM that's on the card itself.
~~~~
Sorry if I'm shooting down everyone. I guess really, if all you want is a quick boost, an x1300 is fine. It's cheap too. I checked some benchmarks and they say it's about 50% slower than an x1600, but it's also about 50% of the price, right?
In any case, just make sure you make an informed decision. Check for unlocking possibilities and compare the card's performance with others in your price range with the VGA charts @ tomshardware.com. Finally, make sure to buy it online and see if you can find a place with free shipping. If you're in Canada, I know of a few.

So it really performs twice as well eh? Intresting, but im problably not going to buy it...as you problably know, this is a very bad time for buying expensive hardware.
Quad cores and PCI-E rising up is going to change alot. And the conroes are problably gonna force AMD to do somthing, which will problably include lowering prices for Athlons. And speaking of AMD, they bought ATI recently, but you all problably know that. Thats gonna invoke some changes I just know.
The american dollars gone to shit since they started beating up Iraq and stuff. Its actually cheaper to order from the US now. And if youve been paying close attention to the news, its become obvious that the US is gonna invade Iran as well. Georgey said it him self "Iran must be punished for continuing to make nuclear products." (Not exact quote, can't remember it exactly)
What do you think that means eh?
Invading countries isn't cheap nowadays. Their already a few trillion in dept, how much lower are they going to go?
Ill be sure to laugh when the Canadian dollar goes above the Americans.

512mb 7950GT's are about 350 CAD, definatly the best price to performance, apart from a 240 dollar, 7900 GS from XFX. For under 100 dollars its not a bad deal.Orakio wrote:http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatalog/7900_Series.html
