Failure on Mod-side?
I will try to make this not a flamewar, but it has to be discussed, if possible without Emos, even if i get my head busted for it.
Why i write this? I just thought about the Gundam and Smoth Case - and came to the conclusion, that he maybee never reached the Mainpart of his Comunity - which would be RoboMangaFans, Anime and Gundamfans. If then the Project fails, because such a "Core"-Comunity is missing, the Spring Players are suddenly"guilty" for not beeing interested.
So if a Mod doesen`t run well, why not put some Adds into Forums where People (who never heard of Spring) hang around, that are interested in similar Themes like your Mod. (For Example EE - the Earth21xx Fans, C&C Websites). Is it always the Spring Comunitys Mistake if it doesent deliver the Core Comunity? Or do Moders simply guess, because there is fulltime interst on the boards, there is roundtheclock interest in the Main-Channel?
I know this ironicly Overcharged - and there are really just a lot of "I-will-never-try-anything-else" Guys in the SM-Servers (Great Work of getting them Away from Addiction by Speedworker "Noize")
That`s the sense behind the post, looking on both sides. It is not a try to degrade or bad-mouth anybodys work, every Mod i played until today in Spring was nearly Perfect on Technichal, Style, Balance, Graphic & Gameplay- side. Just the Players were on other boards...
Unworthy begging for Forgivness

Edit: Why are you begging forgiveness? Heheh, smoth should find a forum for anime-gundam fans.. He would overkill Springs User base..

The final issue was not that the mod was underplayed, from what I remember, it was how the other members of the community here including certain modders treated Smoth's altogether progressive contributions and his activity in general. It's really quite absurd, because every modder seems to add new things over time that the rest all like or use, but none of them give proper support to the source. Smoth made a lot of things public, was willing to help with just about everything, and essentially grew tired of being used.
The Core community of Spring is combative. There, I've said it. You know what, we logically would be! We came together for a Real Time Strategy engine, not a bloody tea party, discounting the Boston variety!
So, it isn't the mistake of the Spring community that we fail to show interest in certain things - I mean, the ones who matter usually do besides! I can think of fifty people very interested in the Gundam mod at this moment, from this community.
The mistake is that the community can't seem to function as a community. Our only united teir in the group happens to be the Developers, or so it seems. So little respect for the works of others, at all other levels, so little mutual effort in many cases.
Oh, and for the record, new versions of Gundam and E&E are in development. They both look pretty damn good.

ah but there lies a problem with bringing in Gundam fans. Smoth has stated numerous times that before he would show this to the full Gundam community he must get everything down to a minute detail or else the fans will complain that the mod is not correct to the source material. We have brought in some people and they have contributed much to the mod. In time new versions will be released but Smoth has a lot on his plate atm like most of us.
Oh and +1 to neddie's post. The particularly bad incidents i recall are his 3 week arguement about how the Color red was in fact pink. People yelled and screamed at him in that thread for a long time before it was finally locked (and the color was changed though the point is mute since we know have user selectable colors). The other thing was his one patch for isairbase/isfireplatform. People yelled and screamed that this would break all the units with the tag (which is a total of about... i don't know... 10!!!) and that his implementation was terrible. The second one in particular is bad because that many people who argued had no code experience whatsoever. gah... its just... ah nm... this is going to derail soon enough and ive said my bit

It would be really usefull if disrespecting, flame posts who don`t help (maybe make a exception for BRUCE- he is nessescary) and who follow after a Moder would be autoshrinked in Textsize, making them Hard to read. Less work for the Mods.. why not add two buttons, so that every follow post is constantly rated as helpfull or useless - and depending by a some Var( Post per Day/ Number of Bans/ etc.) is shrinked by the Votes.
I just read the Red Thread - and it is just people not reading carefully - and other overreacting. Both coming together generate Explosions - How about having a percentage Number under the Nick, telling how carefully somebody reads the Posts - the Moderatorss could take Percents and give, and people would be more carefull, stick more to topic - and so on...
It is just about raising Quality of both - Problem solving and Critique

KDR, Smoth wasn't arguing about his mod. Back when we had the standard color system (i.e. 10 colors) the red wasn't a true cherry red for S3O. it was pink. Smoth brought this up and was then flamed by everyone and their grandmother about it. People blatantly denied that the color was pink even though Smoth gave them proof. Picasso if u could link him that would be most appreciated.
Im not talking about mod makers refusing criticism thats a whole different ballgame (and one which i want to stay the hell away from). Im talking about people arguing/flaming certain forum members for no real reason and getting away with it.

Yeah, but when people have no respect is when the line is crossed, I never said anything about critique..KDR_11k wrote:Without critique we don't grow and mod authors aren't the only ones who can give critique so telling people to shut up just because they're not making a mod is a fallacy.
Yeah, I know he is right, but blunt about it, thats why its so shortPicassoCT wrote:No- i like Bruces Posts - most of his critics are right. And short.Snipawolf wrote:Bruce gets kind of annoying, hes just blunt though..
