Appreciation and respect for modders...

Post by Snipawolf »

Modders have a VERY VERY VERY fuckin hard life, I hold high respect for anyone who has made a SINGLE unit! I am trying to make a unit that will work, and am too tired to think straight, its fuckin hard. Period....

I have a script for aiming/moving parts and a weapon for it, and the unit itselves script, I haven't tested and surely won't tonight... I am very tired... Its like doing book-work on steroids, it makes you sleepy and lethargic, I thought making a model was bad, sheesh...

I however will not be giving up, for I am going to make my mod...

I too have respect for people who can do things that I can only dream of. Anyone else think a Darkside mod would be great?

Or am I crazy. I LOVE the modders, all of them. Some are a bit screwy...no wait...they are all certifiable. But who in this forum aint? We're all a bunch of psychotic apes at computers, trying to make something of ourselves in this crazy hill Internet of ours. Does it mean anything? Any of it?

Not really. But its fun, so why not?

Maybe the end is fun, if you like staring at so many letters you can't count
em as fun, then modding is a perfect job for you!

I've tried. It was hard. I realized I had ten pages to write in three hours. I stoped.

Ah, don't worry, it get damn easy once you're used to it. This is Spring, it's so unflexible there's not much you need to do to create a mod.

I wouldn't say that Spring is "unflexible". I'd say that it, like any game engine, has some limitations. That said... it supports a wider range of... well, almost anything... than any other RTS (let alone free ones you can modify to your heart's content) out there.

In short... just stick with it. You'll soon be making pretty neato stuff :-)

Those N's still look damned odd. Great units, though.

I need to fix them, they're still welded- that's what's causing the black spots near the top. Minor problem only, been too busy to make it top priority at the moment.

Bora-Bora.

And it has to be ABOVE them. Really. I tried it, and it detracts from the units if it's on the sides- it looks like some weird thing sticking out've them, when they rotate, instead of a makeshift GUI element ;)

I'm still thinking simple spheres are the way to go, honestly. Nobody seems to care for the Ns. I thought it was a good idea at time

It is a good idea. A sphere (or a flag, maybe) would be cool. I just think the N is just...weird. A sphere...maybe we could call it the Sphere of Ownership?

a ring or halo perhaps? or a rotating triangle? It's just them being so high up makes them look really wierd, especially in the distance.

Huh... what do ya know... spheres not only get rounded by a shader, they automagically are assigned reflectivity...

The rounding is just the normal gouraud shading. Reflectivity shouldn't come from itself, sure you didn't mark them as reflective on the second texture?

Absolutely. It was a model/S3O issue.

Better? I need to sleep now, so that I can get the cursors done, the newest unit done... and then release this!

What are the spheres for? Just to prove you can put spheres on units?
