Another computer problem

Post by nobody2u »

When I boot Windows XP up, I click my username on the welcome screen and type in my password. Problem is, my keyboard freezes up the moment I press a key, and takes the mouse down with it. The computer doesn't freeze, the flashing line thingy that appears when you type stuff is still flashing. Booting up in safe mode also has the same problem. The keyboard works fine if when I use it in th BIOS setup. I suspect its a bad keyboard driver, since I just updated my keyboard's driver yesterday. Anyone have anything that can help?

Revert keyboard drivers; then reinstall if that dont work; you may have bad keyboard.

Worst case bad PS/2 slot but i dont think that would cause it :P

I am surprised safe mode is bad, since it should not load drivers.

If its a USB keyboard, completely switch off, disconnect the keyboard, power up, connect the keyboard when you need to login.

Or

Borrow another keyboard.

Most likely that new driver was bad, since my keyboard worked fine before I installed the driver. Problem is that I can't revert to my last driver because I can't log on to Windows. If only I didn't put a password...

Found solution :-) Had to use my Windows CD and boot into system recovery console. From there I had to reset my windows\config to what it was when I installed Windows. Keyboard driver was reverted to the original driver, but so was everything else :? Now I have to reinstall all my drivers again :|

The only reason you'd ever need keyboard drivers is for

a: wireless keyboards, most likely ones using bluetooth in which case its bluetoothdognle drivers your installing
b: Extra keys/programmable buttons
c: Addons to the keyboard such as those with the skype phones built in.

Lol,didn't know that keyboard drivers didn't need to be updated. I thought a outdated driver would solve another problem with my keyboard. I can't hold [up + ctrl or shift+ left] at the same time; if I do, the system speaker beeps an error sound and only [up] and [ctrl or shift] have a effect. Now I think my keyboard just suck that way. :?

My keyboard beeps like that too, but it does that if I have any combination of four keys held down at once.
