Any ETA on new animation formats?
When I mentioned writing a script to make Spring anims in a 3d program (using BOS) I was told that BOS is going to be replaced with LUA soon so that's unnecessary. Now I want to know: When, if at all, is that LUA support going to be implemented? If it's still more than half a year away I'd rather get that script working ASAP instead of waiting for LUA to get done but if the next release will already feature a better animation system that effort would be wasted, no?
Yes, the new animation will be next version.
The new water animation.
They'll be removing all the other changes, and eventually phase out units as well, as they'll be unnecessary and get in the way of the water.
Then in 0.75b1, we'll see waves implemented along with beachside resorts.
By 1.0 Spring will be a beachfront timeshare program which runs at half a frame per second on the Blue Gene.

It was a reasonable question, why do you have to be such a nobend?Gnome wrote:Yes, the new animation will be next version.

which many of us are eagerly awaiting u to examine with full force.Caydr wrote:There's never been proper emphasis placed on water battles in any mod or even OTA... it's just this sort of morass of crap.
And yes guys the water is in. It's not going away. All of the new arrivals who complain about its existance are being ... stupid. This has no effect on u what so ever. None. It can't. The during time it took develop and implement the system u weren't here. You have no right to complain about this.
To those who are long standing members of the community:
It is in. Its done. Move On.
The devs do this for their own enjoyment. So if they enjoy doing something, like the water renderer, they are gonna do it. Live with it. You can't control them. The horse is dead. You have beaten so badly u have reduced it to its constitute atoms. For the love of something get over the water and be constructive.
On that note, KDR, keep working on it. BOS isn't going anywhere.

Hum, some people have thoroughly missed the point here.
Noone actually dislikes the water. It's fine, it looks great. What people are concerned about is that there are several gaping holes in Spring that need to be filled, such as the way animations are handled (Upspring is a nightmare if you're doing anything more complicated then turret rotation).
What Gnome is bothered about is that the crucial dev attention seems repeatedly to be placed on inclusions which are great, but not as vital as some things which rather urgently need to be in. The result is that we have gorgeous water, next to units with animations that are no more complicated then what TA had to offer almost a decade ago.

What I'm bothered about is that gnome seems to know how I should spend my time best. Working a few hours on a slightly altered water renderer was mostly for learning purposes and fun. This time doesn't go directly into bugfixing or whatever if I didn't do that.
Hell I could have been debugging right now if it wasn't for this irritating thread I had to reply to.
Gnome doesn't have a fucking clue about development so he should move his opinions elsewhere.
