Snakes on a Plaaaaaaaane!

If you don't understand it inherantly than it probably can't be explained but I will make the attemt (I'm procratinating on house work so distraction comes easy).
First of all the back story,
When people come up with an idea for a movie, sometimes all they have is an idea, then they get someone to write a script, for example "Crazed Driving Instructor Robot escapes justice by building a time machine and escaping to the past with a talking pie as company", and sometimes they don't wait on the marketting department to come up with a good name for it before circulating the script to prospective actors, seeing as in the modern world a movie is partially defined by the actors they get for it and the script will proably need reworking anyways.
Samuel L. Jackson receives a script titled "Snakes on a Plane" and signs on for a the project.
During the publicity period Samuel L is interviewed and the interviewer refers to the movie by it's new title "Pacific Flight 211" or whatever, and Samuel L sais, nah, we're getting the old title back... the story circulates that Samuel L will not allow the movie to be released if they change the name on it... and the story starts spreading.
The simple honest nature of the film title and concept, a movie that can be defined entirely by it's title (weather this is true or not) captures the hearts and minds of forumer and IRC channelers everywhere. Snakes on a plane becomes a Meme, bigger then Badger Mushroom Snake, alsmost as big as All your base, taking the internet by storm.
Now, a movie studio sees this free publicity and sees itself in a unique positions, for the first time ever they have a cult classic on their hands and know it before the release of a film, whereas in the past they have only found out this kind of this after a movie has done the "sleeper hit" thing for a few years and has suprisingly made more money on DVD sales then on inicial release. They embrace the grass roots propaganda in the spirit of crass consumerism at it's worst, going so far as to reshoot bits of the film to take advantage of the new taget market perpetuating the fervour and set up internet contests to get your band into the movie and the like.
Now, typically when a marketing campain shifts to feed the masses the people of the internet mock the process, yet another example of how stupid the unwashed masses are, and how maleable they are to the mind control of the mass media... but that's the point this time, we love the idea of a movie studio going so far to the rediculouse that we bask in the perfect mockery they are making of themselves.
Now added to all this is the basic "Chuck Norris" phenomenon, of rediculouse tough guys being adopted as the satiricle heroes of the internet in the last few months/years with SLJ fitting the modern role while having been in a number of great nerd movies/cult classics in the past (resvoir dogs, formula 49... could be worng on those) and the fact that "Snakes on a Plane" as a statement is just inherantly wonderful and you get something that is as big as this has become.
Embrace the snakes people... Embrace Snakes on a Plane... It's all just so fucking hilariouse.

URL WOULD BREAK PAGE FORMATTING
This article explains the exactly what most people are going to say about the movie, what Zombie and The Big Boss would say about this movie, what critics will likely say about the movie.
Okay now take away all of that fellows cleverly crafted arguments as to why the movie is a bad thing and what you have left is my perspective... I had assumed that it was impossible to explain.
What I hope from this movie is that it will kill the movie industry more then the success of the first star wars movie and Xmen movies did. When studios are rewarded for stupidity they decide to run with it... and this film will cause them to run flaming off a cliff... Like the old chinese emporer that I forget the name of I belive that Annachy and Chaos is a healthy step towards purging bad habits from society... if society colapses and we retain all we have learned, perhaps the world will re-emerge better then before.
Snakes are only the beginning, and Kevin Smith is the only person who really understands the universe.

What a weird movie. But that's what makes the movie so funny, that the author is a five-year-old, the randomness/stupidity of the thing. The really weird editing, and picking a weird topic and making a weird movie out of it filled with weird random-yet-loosely-related weird stuff.
And people like that.

I to have been hearing how people say this movie is so funny. I watched it and did not laugh at any of it. It was just plain stupid. Its sad really seeing how movies and tv shows are turning out. They keep getting stupider and people want more. All were left with is crappy shows and movies ala "Napolean Dynamite"

It is even more sad to see how some people are not even able to recognize that others may think that the entire concept is hilarious, and then uses the opportunity to insult my country.Pathfinder wrote:I to have been hearing how people say this movie is so funny. It is also sad to see how stupid people can be in the USA anyways.
I'm pretty sure the movie isn't intended to be a comedy - I haven't seen it yet and it's not likely I'll see it for a little while since I'm in the process of moving to college, so I can't say for sure.
It's basically a meme.
We are laughing at how stupid the movie is.
If you go expecting a serious work of cinematic art, not only will you be disappointed, you deserved to lose the $15 you spent on tickets and popcorn.
