Hi guys, I'm not a Spring developer but I do have a background in games development. I've been an OTAer for the last 5 years, but taken to Spring in the last 2 weeks. It seems the last few days Spring has developed a rather interesting habit of just exiting for no reason whatsoever. It could be 2 minutes in, it could be 40 minutes in. I could have 3 units or 300. Pretty sure its not a lag issue.
Thing is, theres no error message to tell me "hey - this is what's up, go tell someone" so I thought I'd tell you lot about it. It takes about half a second to jump back out and I'm left staring at my desktop. If there were an error message, it'd be a really handy guide as to what the problem was, but it seems nothings catching this exception so somewhere theres something not being handled right (or not at least not reported).
Any ideas or quick fixes?
Running a 3.4Ghz AMD Athlon 64 bit procressor with dual monitor setup. 512 RAM. BT 2Mb connection. Spring installed to default location. Only mod I have is AA 2.11.
(One other thing, when I minimise Spring - I've got my taskbar on the left side - but when I return to the game it seems Spring is no longer fullscreen. I can see my taskbar and the game window has shifted over a taskbar-width onto the right hand screen like its been pushed across by the taskbar. Any fixes for that?)
Spring exits without an error message

This sounds familiar: http://taspring.clan-sy.com/phpbb/viewt ... 8f1c9931b3
Current theory involves hardware - not enough power going to the card. Try taking it out and putting it back in before buying anything though. That's what I'm going to try. Does this happen with programs other than Spring?

It's nothing but Spring. And it seems to be a recurring problem. Looks like an unhandled exception. People are blaming hardware, but I think this is for the developers to solve. :) There was mention of a driver that thought it was dual screen (even thought it wasnt a dual screen setup) and that also had problems. Pretty sure its a software fault. I dont think the Springers have extensively looked into dual monitor support for Spring?
I've had the same experience with spring... in the middle of the game it just throws one out to the lobby... no error message or anything...
I recently changed my graphics card from an ATI XL800 to a NVIDIA 9700GT, but I've seen this on both cards...
I think that's something that started happening after version 0.72 was released...
