Favourite Map and Unit

Post by Ishach »

Just as a bit of fun I thought i'd make a post asking people what their favourite unit and map is, this can be on whatever mod you like.

Prefferably write also why its your favourite :-)

These are both on AA

Map: Mars
I like mars because because unlike maps like MoonQ20 it is square, meaning on a 2v2 you have to controll a much larger amount of land. This usually leads to it being hard to porc since you have to build a huge defensive line to make it so it cant be breached. All the hills just make this full of tactical positions. Lots of people complain that its too big for 2v2 but I just love it.

EDIT: cause i realised the real reason I like mars so much.
The size of the hills means that building a T1 defence structure on the buildable peak will not have the radius to fire on anything that isnt on the hill, ie the radius of a LLT wont extend past the slopes of the hill. This means hills are usefull for artillery and maybe anti air, but they dont restrict movement of troops going past them.

Unit: AKbot
I love spamming AKbots, to have an opponent send in a standard wave of rocket bots only to be swarmed and gridlocked by AKbots a fraction of their cost is just priceless. I also find them usefull on a more strategic level for taking intermediate land controll and lowering an opponents mobility by constantly harrasing workers and expansion.

You mean the 8x8 Mars?
Somehow I've always avoided it because of the brown color or something althouht its probally a very good map.

Favorite Map: Brazilian Battlefield
Image
+It has metalfields instead of the usual "dots"
+good gameplay with lots of hills you can take with kbots
+its fun to expand to from one valley to another while trying to keep your enemy from noticing
+simple looks, but well done

Favorite unit is a bit harder...
For AA I like to use the Can and the Morty because they are both effective, somwhat funny and have good recognition-value.
The Core Leveler is also great fun because its cannon has an big impuls and splashdamage that sends units flying around.
But the coolest unit ever has to be The Gimp
Image
I just looked up that "Gimp" means "Einfaltspinsel", that makes them even cooler! They just look so utterly stupid and useless with their somehow cool walking animation when they emerge from the water and climb some hill that appears to be much too steep.
Only problem is, some very long time ago the two plasma-guns were replaced by green lasers which are not half as funny :/
Lasers are much to serious for this unit.

For EE, the GD Level 1 transport helicopter is sooooooooo useful, the airplant is always my second factory. That might be the reason why I usually lose buts its cool to put some tanks on a cliff where the enemy can't reach them:
Image
omg its teh clifftank!

There are other good units in some mods, like the Gunperry in Gundam, this is basicly a transportbox with three much to small propellers to make it fly.
Or the thundercloud with the lightning-attack from Xect vs. Mynn.
Or the transportable guns from Kuro (see wiki for a picture)
And almost any TLL unit.
But I dont have screenshots of them atm, so you might have to try this out on your own.

Its 16x16 and is a similar style to Brazillian battlefields but a different colour.

Just minutes after writing the OP I was introduced to a map that is 100x better than any map I could have imagined.

4x4 battle for a duck in low gravity!

Yes. Duck is clearly the best map ever. And the Sumo is the best unit ever on that map.

There was literally a screen's thickness of dead Thuds on the Duck between my base and the enemy base (Upper right versus lower left).

My sumo crushed the wrecks and let my Thuds flood into the enemy base unimpeded after crushing his defensive structures.

Oh. Try building a Plasma Cannon on that map, and then fire on Hi Trajectory. The shells take a friggin' week to land!

Nice thread, this is hard but id have to say, I ve had the most fun on/with

Map

Xantha terra V3, its fast and fun, plenty of metal so players arent usually as cagey with their level1 units so the action gets going moving early in game.

Unit

Brawler, the phatboy a very very close 2nd but the brawler has to be my fav purely because of the reaction you get from some players when you fly 10 into their base and they realise they forget their anti air,
Priceless

Favorite map is DryRiver V10, hands down, no questions asked.

1) I don't like big maps
2) I don't like metal maps
3) The map has some open flats, some porq hills, some chokepoints, some non porq hills, some key locations to fight over, and a good metal distro. It makes for a nice blend of strategies.
4) The visuals are very strong.
5) I like maps that look like they could be real places. I don't like hills that are repeated in a grid ect.

I don't really have a favorite unit, although I am a big fan of peweespam...

Favourite map... I dunno, I've played a lot... Maybe Mountain Siege, haven't played it for a long time though (Gimp spam!)

My favourite unit by far is the Dom in Gundam Annihilation, expensive, not a lot of health, but it's fast and has a very powerful weapon.

With good micro a single Dom can kill a commander.

It even hovers!

Map: Comet Catcher or Xanthe Terra v3 - I like flat maps because you can attack your enemy from several different directions and I HATE HATE HATE games that end up in porcfests

Unit: LLT! there's nothing like that feeling of calm once you've established those first few critical LLTs.

I'd have to say my favorite map is Plains and Passes. It has all the elements I enjoy. It's open, but not exposed, with varied terrain, and the intersection in the middle is such a lovely ground of contention. It is unrestrictive in terms of what one can do, and usually provides a fairly good teamplay experience as well. The texture is rich and (as close as it gets) to perfect.

I've always had a thing for pyros, so flexible yet so deadly. They remind me of spartans..but with flamethrowers.xD Damn they kick ass...

Map: Splintered Tropics

It's not perfect, but it's a start. What I really want is a truly massive map with lots of small islands in a few chains, but enough sea room to play in. Anyway, unless you plan on running up a long game or playing with submarines, this is a rather fun map for a 1v1 or a FFA.

Unit: L3 URC Constructor Spider

It's beautiful. It's big. It's not offensive at all.

I'd like it even more if it had more things on the build tree.

Fav Map : River Dale

While it's imbalanced by design "according" to min3mat, I love playing large games on this one, the diffrent routes of attack open possibilites for more then the usual stuff.

Fav Unit : AKs / Sharpshooters / Para-spiders / Panthers.

AKs when micro'd = pwnage.

Sharpshooters + Cloak + enough energy = Commando Missions!

Para-Spiders = Make the job easier for other units / prevents pesky lone gunships from harrasing my force while AA fires at it.

Panthers : Cheap-ish, fast, excellent attack = Solid tank - victim of "Jack of all trades, master of none".

My favourite map would be mars.

My favourite unit is the rocket bot.I just find them to be very versatile, i can put them in nearly any situation and i'll ussually get my moneys worth. Although they do need a bit of micro to reach their full potential their range and raw power make them the perfect unit for my style of play.
