Audio limiting (again)

Post by Caydr »

There needs to be improvements to the sound system. All it takes is a minor battle and you're forced to either zoom way out or else risk causing irrepairable harm to your speakers or headphones. And I know I'm not the only guy here who plays computer games using $100 surround headphones that can't just be replaced at the drop of a hat.

Either:
a) set up some kind of audio limiting where the maximum decible output never exceeds approximately 90 db; there's suggestions here that I've seen about how to do something like this
b) have sounds be much quieter and more localized to their generators; this isn't very TAish, but many modern games have this sort of thing. IE, if you're about 1500 units above a peewee firing, you shouldn't hear a thing. At 500 altitude, you can hear it quietly, and if you put your camera directly into the midst of the battle it gets louder. But even this solution is only a band-aid; all you need to do is get a sufficiently large battle and the damage will still be done to our audio equipment.

A cheap monitor costs less than $100, and I bet if there was a game that actually permanently damaged monitors there'd be a fix in a hurry. Sound is just as important as sight IMO.

While i highly doubt actual damage would be done to my headphones due to audio card limits its damn fricking annoying so seconded. I think you should still be able to hear stuff from far away even if quietly but now its overkill, be at perfect height or go deaf/feel deaf. Should be high priority tbh

option 'a' ftw. I think my pair of headphones are dying (but they aren't expensive, so meh), and Spring definitely isn't helping.
