Which value defines the sound distance dependency?

Which value defines the sound distance dependency?

I noticed, that some sounds are noticable from far away while some other sounds arent ( i dont mean the unit replys but weapon sounds). I also noticed, that the damage and the areaofeffect value does not effect this dependency.
So my question is: which value must i change, to make some sounds noticable from far away?

no sorry, that doesnt work. I have an explosion with 25k (areaofeffect 500) default damage and it is not hearable from far away while another weapon with default damage of 400 (areaofeffect 60) is.
Perhaps all sounds from the explodeas tags are very quiet over distance.

Hmm, area of effect, then? It's one of the basic things... drives me nuts, the sound in NanoBlobs hasn't been right since 3 Spring releases ago :P
