New map format... again...
Any chance that the new map format could be released in the next version? As in putting a lot of manpower into it?
WOuld be pretty kick ass.

This isn't the "ATi versus NVidia" thread. The relevant thing is how well Spring runs on various cards, and what can be done to make it work better. Presently the architecture of some ATi cards is posing a problem that the developers will have to spend some effort solving, or choose to ignore (which they can do, since this is not a commercial venture reliant on supporting the widest possible playerbase). It has nothing to do with whether ATi cards are "good" or "bad". Why even drag this into a dumb internet debate?Drone_Fragger wrote:ATI pwns your crap cards. The New crossfire system beats SLi And doesn't need a hugewtfbbq Fan about the size of your head to cool it like SLi does.

This is a very rough guess but I won't be surprised if Jelmers map format still needs a good 6 months of part-time development.
Maybe Jelmer will include it in a release before that.
But before most bugs are out and it's really useful we live in 2007 I think.
Now of course "if" an engine developer (Jelmer) would focus on it full-time it might be finished in 2 months.
(But again this is a rough guess)
But I'm quite sure that won't happen.

on what basis are you guessing?Tim Blokdijk wrote:This is a very rough guess but I won't be surprised if Jelmers map format still needs a good 6 months of part-time development.

Nah, not 6 months. I can't really give a date, but I hope to finish it this summer. Also, when I think the texturing specification is stable, I'll put it in spring even if there are some bugs (It won't affect any maps anyway). The current spring version already has the map abstraction, so including the new terrain renderer in it is really simple.
