I found the secret base!
Oh, wow... I just dug up my copy of TA last week and got it all going. After a while, I realized that TA was so disgustingly simple that I could probably make my own units and stuff for it, make my own total conversion. I start looking into resources and everything, and then I see this 'TA Spring' thing.
Now, I save the link and decide to look at it later, seeing how FileUniverse seemed so... well... old, and I'm on dialup. I finally download TASpring and run it, and I'm pretty impressed, and I start feeling a little disappointed 'cause I'm thinking "this real cool software must be way old and abandoned".
I also get the idea that maybe I could make a total conversion out of Spring, so I go on and look into any development resources on it, and I'm shocked to see that the project is actually very, very active. I figure it's the ever-coming TA:SC on the horizon, then.
So, wow... I guess I might as well offer any help I can. I don't know what you all need, I didn't look at the page long before signing up on this forum. I don't have any 'professional' experience, like graphic school or anything. I've just spent alot of time with 'Max and things, and lately I've been making a fair number of 'products' for this thing called IMVU. I guess, to list it...
Software experience:
Photoshop 6 - CS2
3D Studio Max/VIS 5 - 7
A little bit of AutoCAD/Architectual Desktop
IMVU's 'Previewer' program, which relies on CAL3D import/exporters
Notepad, because everything else must die
Calc.exe, so I can make cracks about 'I haxed joo wit calc.exe'
Creative experience:
UVW texture mapping
Texture creation
Mesh creation
Mesh weighting
Writing, mostly fiction for EVE Online and the usual forum jabbering in my neverending quest to get all the attention I can humanly stand
Amatuer coding, nothing specific or detailed, just enough to know that nothing in programming's easy but it's all pretty much the same
I'm a little sleep deprived right now, so I'm not even sure if I'm really, like, doing anything right now or if it's some crazy dream. I'll bookmark this so I can check it after I'm back with reality >>

Mmmm, Fresh Meat!
Okay... a lot of projects are looking for UV mappers, so you might be useful there... check the mods forums...

See this thread if you are interested in joining Star Wars Spring as a texturer
We urgently need a texturer, and we are able to UVmap for you.

Does he know there is a thriving community and Spring is continually being updated?AphoxemaG wrote:"this real cool software must be way old and abandoned".
But it sounds like the mod makers are going to decend on this guy's talents like a pack of starved vultures (No offence to mod makers, by the way). Welcom to Spring, and thanks for bringing some new talent to the community AphoxmeaG.

WHACKY WAVING INFLATABLE ARM FLAILING TUBE MAN!
I mean... I don't have any love or even an appreciation for for UVW mapping, but I'll sure as Hell do it before meshweighting. I'm not really good at texturing, but I've always found it easier to texture things when I did the mesh and mappings myself... a more fluent understanding.
So, I'm not too picky about what mod I'm helping with, and I'd hate to leap into anyone's lap saying I can do something I don't really know if I can. The difficulty of UVW mapping using depends on the complexity of a mesh... not really how many faces it is, but how many directions they face, how many 'pieces' a mesh is, how many things overlap and how steeply most of the faces change direction.
I'd be glad to take a stab at any unmapped geometries anyone wants looked at... I'm only willing to work with 3DSMax 7 compatable .3ds files, 'Max is the most appropriate application I have for mapping.
So, if you want to see how well I can map, put your .3ds in a .rar with max compression on a host and email me the link at xeristian@cwazy.net , if you can't find a host, please don't send any files larger than ~2 megs. I'm stuck with dialup and dirty phone lines for a few weeks.
I'm just glad no one wants me to make meshes... it's not hard, really, it's just that everyone makes meshes >>

Ah more talent, good.
Uv mappers and textures are much needed (I self am a lousy texturer, but I'm learning)
The fact that mappers and texturers are the most needed, doesn't say you cannot make the models yourself
But we see many units get stuck at the textureing part, that is a shame.
And as SwiftSpear said, don't be afraid to ask anything.

Oh gees, well AA is active... but I don't think caydr's doing alot of custom content right now... StarWars spring has like 30 untextured models, There's many unnamed projects that I'm sure would love to have someone helping out all at various stages in development. I think EE is building a naval devision right now, but I'm not sure about that. Hopefully the projects acctually step up and pimp themselfs, I'm sure there's work going on that I don't know about as well.
We've done a bit of self-pimpage.
