Hostility...
I have been noticing of late that there seems to be an increasing amount of hostility present in replys to just about anyone on any topic across the board. Now I know some people are just naturally hostile but thats not it. It seems that a couple of people have become entrenched in the community as its "veterans". These people have basically begun to reply to any outside input with a STFU NUB attitude that really only serves to form a loop of hostility. Basically we need to tone down this hositility when even a few people have it, this only serves to cause a domino effect whereby everyone becomes hostile expecting a hostile response. This really is not condusive to discussions. I really think people need to not care so much and also understand that yes you may have a very valid opinion but some new people or less informed people may not understand why your opinion is so much more valid than theirs. You have to remember that new people dont know everything youve done for the community which is relatively small compared to the greater bulk of humanity. So really if your going to post a reply and you feel its going to probably come off a little hostile/arrogant.. dont.. either let someone else post something or wait till your inital anger at the persons thoughts subsides then post some intelligent critism that will allow them to realize the fault in what they say. I know this doesnt work with everyone. So when telling people they are wrong doesnt work just ignore them. If no one pays attention to what they say it wont get implemented and thus is not worth getting worked up over.
This is, like... I dunno, the twentieth post on the subject. I'm not sure where the hostility comes from, but topics like these don't seem to help.
I think some of the problem is just inherent to open-source stuff - people don't have to pay for it, so that means that even idiots can easily get their hands on it.

Though I'm sure somebody will take offense at me even commenting here, I'd have to say this has been a hallmark of the community since I joined... I've tried to get a dozen or so people into the game, but as soon as they start playing actual games - the people turn them off it.
I tend to strike back pretty hard when people start patronizing me, it's the residual component of a once ferocious Irish temper - but that doesn't justify it.
I apologize for continuing the cycle myself in some instances, and I recognize that this is a serious Spring community issue in general.

I think all this hostilillity is good thing, because it shows how much we care about each other, and makes a really good game when people who have hostillity play each other in a match of seriousness. And WTF i need a minimat translator.
