Unit labels and nonconsole chat

Post by AF »

Lets say I have 20 adv const aircraft each with 20 aircraft guarding them that look identical, how do I tell which one is the one I want if I run out of groups? Or what if I feel like giving a group a name thats meaningful and nto a number? Or what fi I have a group of players inside a group f untis and I wanna knwo which player si in which unit by just glancing? How about NPC characters or building or other miscellaneous map items?

Perhaps just a short line of text over the unit/s in question, it could coem in useful for mdos or other games ported to spring

You could make it a consle comand like: "group1 text = Aircraft"
and then it will use 1:Aircraft when you trying to find out which one to select. And then maybe you could add in the funtion to name the unit(s) you have selected with a comand like : "selection text = Realy hard Guys"
Would that be what you mean. It doesn't realy need to be a funtion built into the UI, but it woyuld be nice.
Plus, anyone know if we get group messages, like "Group 1 is under attack!" insted of "fido is under attack!" which can often mean sod all if you have fidos in differnt groups. Then it could say "Realy Hard Guys under attack!" insted...

I mean more like we'd have a console command like .Unitmsg that would attatch the message following it to selected units or groups. And the message would appear above the health bar on the units themselves, perhaps as a scrolling marquee if it's too long.

I reckon that a Battlezone style of unit grouping would be better, you have types of units being 0-9, then sub types also being 0-9, and so on depending how many you define.

Yhe like i said you could name units that arn't in groupes to... Like name a certain punnisher that keeps getting attacked to somthing uniqu so you can tell its one one being attacked not some other punk ass punnisher.

And i dont mind what the comand is just that its there. Yours sounds better...

I believe I covered this in a thread already...

Perhaps it was lost in the 'haxxor' incident...

I believe so, though I thought more elaboration was needed

I believe you are talking about what we do to accelerate constructions...

I hope that that won't be needed any more.
I hope we can be able to pick up 20 aircrafts and access the building menus and assign build orders to them all instead of giving build orders to one constructor and assigning the remaining ones a guard order...

Or rather have a key combo to select all idle workers or a preset number of a chosen type such as select a construction aircraft and press ctrl+shift+i

As for guarding, perhaps a faint translucent white lien between the guarder and the guarded.
