..:: New Map - DigSite ::..

Post by IceXuick »

Okay, anyone remember the concept art of Bowl? I have finished it, and have called it DigSite! It now is a 16x16 map (originally was 24x24, but after playtesting, this didn't work out that good).

You can download the file here:
http://www.fileuniverse.com/?p=showitem&ID=3092

Here are some in-game Screenshots! Let me know how it plays, i think 3vs3 will play well.

Looks nifty, I'll give it a try sometime soon! Looks like it has enough metal spots for a 3v3 this time... What's the wind like?

hahah thanks for all the lovin' and stuff. Well i have to say i was working on this already before DryRiver, so it's a little bit more than one day. Esspecally, because i first tried it on a 24x24 scale... and rendering in Bryce on that size DOES take a long time. (and the filesize would be 70mb, so not very dl-ing friendly, and even uploadable to FU)

Thanks again, i will start working on my 'last' map this saturday. That is, because i am going to work more on the GUI. But (offcourse) i won't leave you with only 4 of my maps :P. I'll let you know when something useful comes out of me again.

Any tips/suggestions/idea's on improving this DigSite are offcourse welcome. I always like to make it better... (was thinking of more dirt-tracks of old sand-machines that worked there, like in one of the first demo shots of Dryriver...)

later!

OMG... this map would be the hawt secks at 24X24... you wouldn't consider perhaps turning compression to 0.4 for it?

Nice work! As this is obviously a quarry of some description, some old mining machinery as features would look great.

@smoth:

well, i did set compression to 0.7 and tried to use a tile-file, but still it was almost 70 mb. Maybe i have to 'ugly-fy' the terrain, and use alot of pure tileable textures. And maelstrom, than the extra features would be a 'no-go'.

Besides this, i dislike the fact that the max. viewdistance is less than the 24x24, and so in rotatable-cam, its hard to see what's happening.

Well. but if there are more people that want a 24x24 huge map + quite big download, i'll can make it.. offcourse!

let me know.

I would like a 24x24 version, it should have some more metal spots then probally...

And i don't mind a big download.... I mean almost everybody of us got broadband. And i guess most of us download big ass demos (500 MB +).

ppl should stop whining about the filesize IMO

Some of the textures in the last two screens remind me of Terrydactyland in Banjo-Tooie.

(Not a word... it was many moons ago, and good innocent fun besides.)

Was that an influence?

Fantastic work Ice, I can't wait to see what you do with the GUI.

A properly done GUI will be a godsend for Spring - its the biggest hurdle in getting started right now, especially for folks who never played OTA.

Those demos take about 2 hours to download on my 4 mbit bband. Taking taht long to get a map while everyone else waits would be dumb.
