Some stupid suggestions

Post by HAARP »

I thought about some stuff, but I'm not sure if you really need it. It'd be useful in my opinion, but that's just me. Of course the devs are busy n' stuff, but i want to suggest it anyway.

1. Option to create paths for every installed map for every installed mod at once
Let him work while you're sleeping and you got em all! Not really important tho

2. Ability to talk to specific players. Of course this would encourage specs helping someone without anyone else noticing, so you would need an ability to disallow them to talk to players (good idea anyway) or some other way to prevent this

3. Make the host able to "manage" players ingame. Kind of a window where you can kick em, get them out of the game ("You have been suspended from the game. Have fun speccing") or allow specs to join the game later on. Especially useful if someone leaves the game without anyone .take'ing his stuff. We probably need the new GUI first, so this can wait.

4. Voting system. I think this has been discussed before, but i can't remember. Basicly, every player has the abilitiy to start a vote. Everyone in the ally or game will be asked, for example, if someone should be kicked or if a spec is allowed to join the game, if someone is allowed to .take someone's stuff or something else. Make them binary questions which can be answered with yes or no, so you don't waste any time. Also needs new GUI

5. Console. Just like in almost every FPS, there should be a console which can be used to give commands or to review older commands or the chat. The commands won't be send over the chat system, so not every player knows what the host is doing May be a good thing, maybe not. Also prevents the screen from getting cluttered with system messages, so the chat windows will only contain gameplay information and the chatlog.
Ability to dump the console log would be nice, too
New GUI first

6. Make it possible for you to deactivate unit messages. If you're lvl1 swarming and a few bots get stuck somewhere (because of crappy pathfinding :p) the chat window is full of "can't reach destination" messages. If you can disable those messages for a specific kind of unit or a specific kind of message, it would be nice

What do you say?

edit: on second thought should be moved to general discussion. Mods?

Development is the appropriate forum for this topic.

1.) has already been talked to death over. Everyone wants it, but it hasn't been implemented.

2.) maybe a blanket restriction on specs talking, instead of options. I dunno. It sounds nice though, maybe "P: [name] [message]" as in "P: HAARP How do you like these private messages?"

3.) If the players aren't dicks, the host can enable cheats (.cheat) and let everyone shuffle around to the teams (or spectator) with the .team X (or .spectator) commands.

4.) Yuck

5.) Umm, yeah, GUI

6.) Would be nice

5) is already implemented only the necessary priority additions have not been added to console message calls. Thus onyl Ai's have the ability to send messages according to priority atm.

pre path cost would be nice, just let it all go at once, i have all teh maps, my map folder is 2.36 Gb, so it would be nice not to have to path all the time

cyclerboy's method would have you path every map for every mod. What I would prefer (and what has been worked over several times already) would be a way to path the map you are currently on for the mod you are currently in in the waiting room for a multiplayer game while everyone else is d/l'ing or otherwise not hitting 'ready'

Letting specs in

Post by Pxtl »

Letting specs in might be bad, since they have full recon knowledge of the enemy bases.

Edit: maybe a command-line pathing program is what we want? From there you can script anything else you want.
