The gameplay possibilities of TA:Spring

Post by Guessmyname »

I was thinking of Nemo's DM mod. After talking to him about it, it has some good ideas, but seems small...

it did however get some balls rolling.

I'm planning a SpringDM mod of my own now (which can have the zombie mod incorporated into it, well sort of)

Basis: Everyone chooses their own warrior guy, with his specific weapon. Simple ye say. However, as the astute will have observed, this thread's title suggests gameplay possibilities, and DM isn't much in the way of gameplay.

So how does SpringDM add differing gameplay? It's quite simple: The player designs the sort of game he wishes to play. With the addition of a few different units, you can have a lot of different gameplay styles in one little mod...

The additional units are as follows:
Gate - this may sound somewhat familiar. Builds one warrior of choice. Gates slowly drain metal supplies, so standing still and waiting for everyone else to kill each other isn├óÔé¼Ôäót the way to go. Going forth and builing income nodes are, or thy shalt find most of your weapons not firing...

Target Building
Very heavily armed. Thats about it.

Target Factory
Builds warriors...

Mothership
Drone builder. Should provide a challenge for about 3 warriors. More than three and more than one mothership will probably be required

Hunter
Invisible to sight. Short range, high power weapons. Should provide a fair challenge for about 3 warriors.

The Drones
Built by the Mothership. Built in hordes. Die in hordes.

All of the above, with the exception of drones, are starting units - different sides pick-able in the lobby.

And... all the above are interchangerable. So you can start of with everyone controlling Factories and building warrior armies. You can CTF games with the Gates. You can combine Factories and Motherships and Hunters and all. You can have games where you must defend against Drone hordes in a desperate bid to defend your team's gates... the list goes on.

Some more examples:
DM
Everyone chooses a warrior of choice. Everyone dukes it out. Last man standing. Fairly straight forward

Team DM
Same as DM, but with teams. Note that you can have as many teams as you like...

Capture the Gates
Each player has a gate. The gate builds a warrior of choice. Thy must defend thy gate, and capture those belonging to your enemies.

Factory Mayhem
All vs Factory(ies)! For even more fun, you could have

All-out war
Each player starts with a factory. Go figure.

The Hunt
Everyone vs Hunter. Good luck.

Ze Zombie Invasion
Everyone vs Mothership/Factory, but with a modified ai to make it only build close-combat Drones/Warriors

If these things are incorporated into Spring, even more things can be done, for example: Base assualt: Defend your teams Building to the last man! Destroy your enemy's to win! etc

heh, yeah, mine was never meant as more than a concept. I'll send you my current build and let you play around with it if you like - its really nothing special, and they still need some tweaking to be more responsive, but I kinda like it.

Good luck with all of this. I think you might find truely unique characters difficult to design after a certain number of them though, which is why I'm keeping mine low right now.
