Anyone got this?
My Little Review
My pal and I where the first 2 ppl in the Dalles, OR to get it. We spent the next 5 hours straight at the pizza shop with WiFi playing online and unlocking all the characters. I had all but Sylux (my last) unlocked be 9 PM on the 20th.
I gotta say, it's the first game I paid 35 dollars for and thought the next day that it was worth every penny. I play botmatches just as much as I play the adventure mode, and the adventure mode is still very much Metroid classic, but they did play up the 'Race back to your ship' parts a little much.
Online is GREAT, but chat of any sort is disabled except with 'Friends', but if you have all your friends on your list, it makes a GREAT 'Anywhere in the World' Instant Messenger proggie too! Both voice and text.
About the online: I've played Halo on live for a long while, and the CTF (Or CTO in this case) is the BEST I'VE EVAR PLAYED. EVAR. It comes in REALLY close to the CTF on Tribes2 and it beats UT2k4 hands down.
Let me explain: Every character, in addition to his weapon, has a unique ability. For example, Samus can jump and boost while in her Morph Ball form, the only one that can do both. But, Trace can turn invisible when he's staying still in his Incect form, and his Pounce attack from said stance dishes out great damage, making playing Predator VERY rewarding! Spire can climb walls and damage opponents simply by touch while he's in his morph mode, making camping with him VERY easy, and stalking is GREAT. And Noxus' attack while in his Top form deals probably 2nd most damage in the game, but takes a while to recharge, making him deadly in hit-and-run-fast attacks. However, if you have good enough aim to use Trace's cloaker sniper rifle and get a Headshot, that's an Instant Kill. You'll be best.
The map selection is great (More than 20 on DM, and +10 on team modes), the characters are fairly original, the movies are great (Dual-angle movies give me a headache tho), and the graphics are the best I've seen from the DS yet. First Hunt did nothing to show this title off, it's all different now. (Texture Filtering, Baby!!)
Any game mode for multiplayer can be played with Bots too, for single-player practice, and unlocking characters give a great reason for single player. The planet-jumping in SP can get tedious (Go to planet A for gun Z, back to planet C for gun X, back to A for gun Y, back to C for boss gets old.)
And Yes, you CAN play on regular WiFi connection.
I'd say, for as cheap as a DS is anymore ($60 for refurbished from NoA Direct), there's NO reason why even a PSP fanboy can't enjoy Nintendo's best Metroid offering scince the Original, and probably the best online from them ever.
Metroid Tournament anyone? 9.1/10
