Water rendering

Post by SJ »

Here is a small video (xvid format) showing a new water renderer that I have been working on for a while. Of course when its finished the waves i produce with the mouse in the video will be created by boats, explosions etc. Still quite a bit of work till then though and unfortunally it seems like it will become quite a bit slower then I had hoped so it will only work on high end nvidia cards.

Looks awesome!!

Will it be able to have the waves come on to the shore, like on a beach?

But you are telling it won't work on Ati cards??

I use an ATI card so I would prefer if the code wasn't cluttered with something I can't use anyways... but that's just me.

Omg, that is soooo awsome.

One thing besides noize's comment, and at least being able to still play spring with my old graphics card as long as I keep fancy (beatiful, awsome, jawdropping) ripples turned off. Are you going to have that work by seeing what can be considered "bubble code" and instead of doing that just replace it with those (beatiful, awsome, jawdropping) ripples automatically? Part of me is hoping its not an automatic thing like that, though I can't think of any reason why are a different, easy way.

Could we get a demo released of this in game? Obviously not a multiplayer-compatible version or anything, but a demo release of this would be great.

OK.

Thats just far to cool. Imposibley so. Makes me wanna upgrade my computer, even though i already have a dam good one. Cause thats gotta take some power.

Does that effect add anything to CPU useage (or is it pretty much all grphics card work?)

BTW, on ATI cards, its probablie using some of nvidias advanced features on there 6000 series, but ATI normaly implament this stuff into there cards later on. Sometimes ATI make somthing cool, which eventuly ends up in GEforce cards. So all it means is a 6600 minimum, any of teh next gen ATI ones willl prob be fine once they include the extra features.
