This is a strange crashbug I found in spring. When a plane collides with another plane that is in that death state where they spiral into the ground it will cause spring to crash. So far I've only seen it happen with fighters crashing into enemy bombers, but so far as I know there's no reason why it can't happen with any kind of plane that does the spirally crashing thing.
I had to do some tests to find out for sure that this was what was causing the crashes so I'm pretty certain that this is it. It doesn't seem to happen with xta very much since the fighers usually blast the bombers into smitherens on the second hit, but I've seen it quite a bit with AA. I came across this when I was trying to figure out why my mod that I was messing with kept on randomly crashing during air battles. In the mod the fighters have machine guns and a faster speed. The machine guns were causing the bombers to go into the spiral death way more often, and with the faster speed the fighters were more likely to run into the crashing bombers.
You can reproduce this with any mod though. I increased the speed, I lowered the missile damage and increased the rate of fire for the fighters in xta and it crashed on the 20'th bomber.
