Often, when you order some unit to fire at, say, a turret, its line of fire will be blocked by a wreck (or I even the terrain itself, I believe). And so if you do nothing it will stand there firing uselessly until the game ends or (more likely) it dies.
I suppose that when a projectile hits an enemy, the game engine still know which unit fired it. So, when it has fired one or two times at its target, every unit should check if it's actually damaging anything! If not, it should try a different spot to attack from.

Side-note: speaking of wrecks, I always thought it would be nice if units that have weapons capable of destroying wrecks automatically attacked to get rid of them if they blocked their path. Anybody likes the idea?
