Imma 'nouncing my...

Post by Silentwings »

game marriage death retirement

I've recently accepted a new job and, as a result, starting from September I will no longer have time to maintain BA.

So, the plan. I'm happy to say that Decay & Floris have agreed to jointly take the project on from me, and I'm sure it will be in two pairs of good hands. Broadly speaking, Decay will maintain the balance & game mechanics, and Floris will maintain the UI & gfx. I will make a final release at some point over the summer, and pass on all decision making responsibility at that point. The exact timing will depend a bit on the engine release cycle & so on.

I won't be gone - I'll continue to moderate the forum, I'd like to join in with future LDs and I'll make the odd map on rainy weekends. I might even play, occasionally 8)

Lastly, thank you to all the people who help make BA successful, especially BD & Nixtux, and too everyone who propped me up over the last 3 years!

Thanks a lot for all the work! And all the quick fixes that often came quicker than I could even notice that the bugs were there :-)

Thank you Blustone.
While I most of the time flamed you, bullied you, or called you sometimes badnames ;), I want to thank you for fixing all the problem coming along with the new versions of the engine and maintaing BA.

Thanks for all the fish, glad you won't completely disappear, and it's good you'll keep joining the events that matter :)
PS: Are there any thoughts about migrating to Github now? Bus factor just got smaller, so maybe increasing the contributability and visibility of the project is something worth considering. (This is really not a SVN vs Git thing, but more of a "Code repository system that accepts external contributions easily vs one that does not")

Thank you for the tons of work to BA! I might not be the most forum-visible person, but after the thousands of hours put into BA, I can say that your work hasn't gone unnoticed and without an impact. :)

I'd really like this. It's indeed not a SVN vs Git thing (especially when we all know that Mercurial is supreme!), but as it stands, to me there's always been a bit of a closed feel to BA development in a manner that is not really characteristic to most open source projects. More visibility and easier contributability would be awesome.

Thank you for all the work!!
I have a RSS-feed on the BA-Trac - insane amount of work you did!
(I esp. enjoyed the steadily growing number of death messages :D)
Good luck with your new job. Maybe you can convert some colleagues to BA players/contributers? :-)

I welcome our new overlords Decay and Floris.
Good luck in this community with all their tender comments. Looking forward for the next attempt of a balance discussion ^.^

will this have the same impact on BAR?
I'll (mostly) stop working on BAR in the same way. But I'm hoping to do some things over the summer first.

I suspect not, I don't work in IT ;)

Hostility and venom for all the work (of which, nothing was good) you put into maintaining BA and I would like to wish you the worst of luck in your future endeavors.
