Ranging showing.

Some stationary defence show their range (laser turrets) but not others, hard to know what reaches furthest. Inconsistent. Would be nice for atleast the smaller placements.

Uhm, have you tried to zoom out? As far as I know, every unit with a weapon shows its range.
It is kind of inconvenient when you try to place a Big Bertha, as its range is far beyond the edges of the screen even when you're zoomed out to the max.

Oh wait I have an idea: let the ranges show up on the minimap.

BB's range sometimes goes beyond to fog of a level, even in a 3D camera. Ranges on the minimap would be great.

I'd like to see minimap ranges. It would just be a useful feature, I use radar minmap ranges all the time.

That gives me an idea to add, "strategic overview". Press a button, and it full screens the minimap and gives a more detailed view, ie ranges like is being discussed as well as little stylised graphics for units. And maybe a few extra commands and stuff.

you can see the range at minimap and on normal screen when you point your gun on an enemy

Click the top right corner of the minimap.

That full screens it, but it can hardly be called a "strategic overview".

Twod be nice if maybe it also shaded in the places it could fire. Often there are hills in teh way, but the range says you still good to fire. Somthing like the line of sight overlay, but in red for ranges would be asum, especialy if it overlayed the minimap to (or the "strategic overview" which i swear i suggested ages ago... a sort of bi anial topic rotation there i think)

why do a strategic overview with the minimap? how about another view-mode (like TA, FPS, rotatable-overhead, and the other one) that renders all the units as radar blips, zooms out pretty far, eliminates fog, and can be rotated as well?

Well, does it realy matter how its done?? Aslong as it gets done id be happy. Would make large battels easier to get around. Hay... we could mix it with the suggestions here: http://taspring.clan-sy.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?t=3031 and it would make a realy cool extra view mode.

I'll grant that it doesn't really matter what the particular method of doing this is, but in my personal opinion it would be nice to have it as a main-view-mode as opposed to minimap. It would be made doubly awesome if we could hotkey the view modes we wanted, or be able to edit FPS mode and Total War mode out of the loop (as per our preferences, so don't get on my case about FPS r0x0rz and whatnot). My two cents.

i'm looking for something in style of M.A.X. and M.A.X.2 max ranges

hmm when I hold down shift I get the weapons range fo everythign I ahve selected drawn on the map.

I could always create a GroupAI that ddi the same thginf ro units, which would also have the added bonus that anythign I draw witht he GroupAI's gets drawn on the minimap too ^_^
