Having been playing Spring for a while, I probably should have just picked it up on my own, but I didn't figure it out: Under what conditions do ghosted buildings only appear on your map, and under what conditions can you also right-click on them to command units to fire at them?
Let me clarify. I know what makes ghosted buildings appear: establishing LoS with them. But sometimes these buildings are only visual, while at other times you can right-click on them with units to command them to attack the structure? I ask because there is a big practical difference between selecting big bertha's and having them dumb-fire into an area and having them target each of the buildings instead (even though they I do not have LoS on them at the moment) so that the Big Bertha will know if it kills one, and then moves on to the next?

This is part of what I hate so much about ghosted buildings. Why bother giving the player that kind of information if the AI isn't going to respond to it intellegently? Ok... the game is going to memorize scouted locations for me... but it won't act on them? It should either force you to do your own memorization as well as your own acting, or do the acting for you.
not to start the 3rd ghosted building wars, but, when the ghost is in the sigth, and has not left "radar" range since the "spotting", then the targetting "seems" more accurate.Kuroneko wrote:You can click on them if you have radar on them, however, accuracy will be normal radar targeting. However, if you do a force attack on where they are, instead of it's radar blip...you get much better accuracy. But, BBs aren't exactly the most accuracte things in the world...
If you lose radar coverage on a ghost, it will display a the ghost+the "dot", when you get the radar bask at that zone.
im almost sure this is player-side, not a default behaviour of popups.Or it will fire on a commander if one is there?
what is true, is that units, (and all of them, included defenses), try to kill the "weakest" targetable object. And, any building starts from 0.. so its like a big red ligth there.
What is a but annoying, is units knowing the health of objects that are not in LOS, but only on radar coverage. (this could be an engine limitation).
The good side is, this gives more importance to learning and using jamming tactics.

The difficulties in accuracy can be circumvented by constructing a Targeting Facility - instead of allowing you to target radar at all it gives you accurate radar targeting. It's about time someone changed the description text from 'automatic radar targeting' to 'accurate radar targeting' really. But it's easy to pick up.
I've *definitely* noticed the commander thing when using energy beam weapons. They seem to auto target the comm, even when he is in the middle of the base.Kuroneko wrote:Only one things really bugs me about targeting, and that it auto-radar targeting. Have you ever noticed how with auto-radar targeting that guns will favour a building under construction? Or it will fire on a commander if one is there? Even if you can't acctually see what the units are...
