Tile based mapping idea...

Post by Forboding Angel »

No unfortunately I can't download annihilator 1.5 because it comes bundled with spyware...

Is there some way to export a big picture of the map you make in annihilator? Cause if so, all you would need to do is crop it to fit current standards and you would have your texture map.

Heightmap is reasonably easy from that standpoint.

Any thoughts on this?

The problem with this is the OTA perspective, which stretches the front and squashes the back of hills, this also cause paralax distortion for the tops of hills.

Then theres the shading applied to the OTA textures, which Spring doesn't need.

The result is most maps that have been converted this way dont look too good.

You can use the flat area textures as a source for your own, but they tend to need a little filtering so they don't look ugly up close.

hmmm good call.

If I can I will put together a 256x256 tileset for mapping in spring. SO that people don't have to draw their own mountains, etc.

I will try anyway... Unless this is a bad idea...

Thers nothing rong with doing it this way, although the problem is surly everything will start to look somewhat samey? What would be maybe better would be a load of repeting tiles that were in the right sizes, but not with things like mountains drawn on them (unless thats what you infact ment, i dont know)

I'm thinking liek the 3 in here only more of them and bigger ect...

http://taspring.clan-sy.com/wiki/Maps:Tutorial

Of course blending them is actully the trick... I'll have to get craking on my tut so there are no more complants :P

gnome, you can not install it without installing torrentspy rufus, which must install savenow ads to complete install. Savenow ads is spyware/malware.

Go dl it from FU and try it out.

Also, to note, savenow ads does not show up in add remove programs unlike what it says in the disclaimer.

Installed it myself, and a distinct lack of anything not annihilator.

how odd

BTW I'm using firefox if that matters. Man this is wierd. Ran spyware (Spybot), nothing there.

Ran crap cleaner just in case. Wow, how odd.

OK something really finky is going on. I just dled it with IE and everything is fine. Gonna reinstall firefox.

Thanks for clearing this up for me guys. Too bad I had to look like an idiot for it, but such is the spice of life :D

Firefox was recently updated, but I never have any problems with it personally.

reinstalling firefox did the trick

How wierd is that. Sorry If I offended anyone by saying that anni came with spyware. I was a little upset by it considering that kinboat would prolly roll over in his grave were that to happen :D
