Spring only uses 1kB/s and says i have bad ping
Resource monitor in Win8 says spring uses 900B/s send/receive combined while advanced allies widget says i lag and have 600ms ping. I do lag when many units are on the field though the game is still playable. The above numbers are from one example in BA with many units / few people. This problem happens in an mmo called Lost Saga at 100kbps though I have not noticed anything that looks like it in other games.
Re: Spring only uses 1kB/s and says i have bad ping
Im sorry to inform you that spring- is almost connection speed independent- meaning, that the number of units has no impact on the bandwith - as long as your pc is powerfull enough to handle the simulation. Transfered over the internet is only the series of mouseclicks and keyboard comands you do, and that is all you get- the serious of mouseclicks and keyboardkomands your opponents did.
Do you have good pings in other games?

Re: Spring only uses 1kB/s and says i have bad ping
That is not the network lag, but the time difference between you and the other players. Happens when your PC calculates the simulation slower than other PCs.
Re: Spring only uses 1kB/s and says i have bad ping
basically the same the others already said...
there are 3 different things at stake here:
* bandwidth
* latency
* CPU cycles
in most games, latency (ping, in ms) or bandwidth (Bytes/s) limitations will make a game lag.
in spring, when you lag, it is a CPU problem.

Re: Spring only uses 1kB/s and says i have bad ping
Thanks. But less than 1 kBps? Really? Puts all the lag i have in other games into perspective.
Re: Spring only uses 1kB/s and says i have bad ping
It is a medium bandwidth - it can spike higher sometimes.
To see the overall used bandwidth: take the replay file, and divide its size by the amount of seconds played - voilà :)

Re: Spring only uses 1kB/s and says i have bad ping
its really just the input of the players+ a checksum .. and that is not much. Compared to computers- humans are like a slartibartfass glacier
Re: Spring only uses 1kB/s and says i have bad ping
Yeah, imagine if somebody had like an AI and was sitting in his basement laughing at all the pro players and the AI would go like, "7 days till nanopaste complete".
Re: Spring only uses 1kB/s and says i have bad ping
Since your problem happens only with many units in game, it is definitely CPU related.
If you instead had ping spikes due to bad network quality (high packet loss), Spring provides the option NetworkLossFactor that can improve your ping in those situations. It will require more bandwidth though.
