Soundtracks.

Post by Tired »

Hey there programmy-type folks. ~~

I'd imagine that this's already been asked and answered, but what's the feasibility of integrating music tracks into Spring's background? For the TA base, the mp3s are all readily available, keeping file sizes low for the game itself, but not only does that involve a slight performance loss, but the tracks won't respond to the ebb and tide of the battle: fast music in lulls, slow music in climaxes, and victory music almost never played upon victories. Possible perhaps to just add the option to reference and play certain tracks from a folder in the Spring directory that users could download and rename at our own whim/leisure?

This seems an applicable issue for any game design for Spring in the future, and TA in particular stood out for its remarkable soundtrack. The game itself is a marvel; this is just an issue of polish.

While I'm at it....

And the circle of life continues.

I think the best idea for now is just to have a music folder and have spring loop the tracks in there until other more important issues are sorted out.

Has nobody considered that maybe they keep getting rezzed because they're popular/important?

If you implement it they SHOULD theoretically stop posting it.

Too much stuff people would like to see done, not enough coders to impliment it all. It would be great to have someone just finish a new GUI, have someone add background music capability, have someone do all the things in the montly topic rotation that everyone hates hearing about. But zaphod is busy doing lots of other stuff, and the list of things people would like is just insanely huge. Someone compile a universal wishlist with all the monthly topic rotation issues. At least then we can link people to a "it's been suggested before" thread. And if we ever had a bored coder (ya right) they can just pick something out of the list and work on it.

Maybe we should make the original threads of the topics on the rotation stickies so people dont post new ones.

Maybe you should shut up and stop being so reasonable and logical. But yeah... a WEEKLY TOPIC ROTATION sticky or stickies would be more helpful then the wishlists that keep popping up... meanwhile... mocking people is fun... Monthly Topic Rotation

It's nothing personal, it's just that we've seen this topic sooooooooo many times before... I think we've had the music one two or three times already this month, haven't we?

Entirely understandable, and I didn't take it personally. ~~ = amused eyes. All the same, a modicrum of maturity wouldn't hurt - if it's a dead subject, skip over the thread. Little sadder than folks complaining about how a thread will never die ~in~ said thread, in the process keeping the source of their supposed annoyance alive. After all, there seem to be many modders here, but not too many who actually contribute as "main programmers." Isn't it better to let those few have the final say, if anything's said at all?

Sorry, but the fact remains, the monthly topic rotation joke is just so much more entertaining then maturity.
