World of Tanks
Search didn't bring this one up, so here it goes!
For those of you who don't know, it's a free2play online game in which everyone uses tanks and fights in team battles.
I've just started playing it, and I've gotten a couple of tanks to tier 3, so I wondered what you guys think of it - some of you are probably playing it.
Particularly I'm a bit baffled at the amount of "pay2win" in the game, it literally has golden bullets! Also you need a premium account to play with more than 1 friend, which just sucks.
At least the gameplay seems nice, although at this level I can't tell how balanced it is, nor how much "pay2win" plays an influence.

Re: World of Tanks
How about World of Planes?
I played world of tanks and the grind is pretty bad.
I'd rather grind WoW than world of tanks TBH.
The first levels of tanks that you unlock are all extremely boring to play with.
You gotta play hours upon hours with shit tanks.
They are not just under powered, they also handle like shit and you never get a chance to get that cool feeling that you did something awesome...
I do not recommend this game.
If you have a friend with an exped account with all the best tanks go at it, might be fun for a while.

Re: World of Tanks
It's a shame world of tanks does not have arcing projectiles.
I know it would not be realistic to have noticeable arcs considering the distances between tanks during most engages but it would make the game more fun.

Re: World of Tanks
I think the 'golden bullets' thing is a bit exaggerated.
The difference between regular AP ammo and premium HEAT ammo on the 76mm AT Gun M1918 is:
This difference is less than what you gain from upgrading from the previous gun.
Imo the only time where premium ammo would be worth it would be if you had already maxed out your tank and wanted to squeeze that extra little bit of performance out of it.
And as far as i have noticed the premium tanks aren't sigificantly better than a tank of the same tier, just a different option.

Re: World of Tanks
Since the developers are also russian I somehow first asumed they are the same guys as from the IL-2 flight sim, which would have been cool.
So I expected a tank combat simulation but it is more like http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WXNlkHvt_qM with better graphics.
On "pay to win:"
You can convert "gold (=money") to credits, which you use to buy tanks/upgrades.
Also the crew levels faster, you get more credits per battle etc lamelame

tanki is also pay to win... no honest people anymore
Re: World of Tanks
@pl
I guess it depends on the tank, but looking at the ammo I use on the Renault UE 57, the difference is (just in penetration) 83-138 and 135-225, that's pretty big, and isn't the only thing you can buy. The shocking part was that you can't play with more than one friend unless you pay :).
Still I can't tell how much all that effects gameplay, as balance can be really poor sometimes (two of us in tier 3 tanks got in a battle with tier 6 tanks, couldn't even remove their paint).
@knorke
Doesn't seem much like that tbh, it's more about standing back and sniping stuff. It doesn't feel so arcade-ish. Real money can indeed mean everything, you can probably just go ahead and buy a top tier tank with all the best stuff as soon as you created an account. I really hate their payment model, but I do like the game mechanics though..

Re: World of Tanks
the grind is indeed painfull, and at the start you can get a bit frustrated from the gameplay, i recall that i only started having fun when i got ligth/medium tanks, got behind them and snipe them from the back. Im waiting for world of planes sounds more fun.

it happens, but heres a hint, dont shoot at the hull front or turret front, and try to get as straight a shot onto the armor plate as you cangajop wrote:Still I can't tell how much all that effects gameplay, as balance can be really poor sometimes (two of us in tier 3 tanks got in a battle with tier 6 tanks, couldn't even remove their paint).
Re: World of Tanks
It depends from where you shoot at...
You should also note that there gives weakspots and each tank has different weakspot... There gives videos on jewtube that shows each tank what weakspot it has and other website shows it too...
For example hull MG and driver viewport is a weakspot
if you want to detrack a tank you need to shoot the big wheel which is at top front or bottom
IMO you should use gold ammo maybe highly on Clanwars because on random gamemode is too much waste
there gives also the possibility to make platoons so you can load one 1 (or 2 if you a premium) friend or so to fight with you in the battle
in the 7.5 patch MM is a bit "nicer" now 2 tier difference instead of 3
should make it somewhat easier
you can also use XVM mod to predict your chance and to see how good other player performs but some other player thinks that using XVM is for noobs
also WoT has alot of tanks that exist only on blueprints or a few prototypes for example the GW series of germans
the Premium tanks where meant to easen the progress (especially on higher tier as you will be likely to make loses with it) for grinding
KV-1 with it's 122mm mini troll gun is sometimes fun to use or
T-150 with 107mm gun is also nice.
Also it has even tanks that is from beyond WW2 and cold war
8.0 patch will included major map graphic changes and added physics
thought WoT is overall a nice game but sometimes grinding here can be hell

Re: World of Tanks
I had quite a lot of success with artillery. I am looking forward to WoP. WoT is easy to get into and try and play for a while but without money I don't suggest staying with it.
