it's a mod for arma 2; arma 2 is at the top of the steam best sellers currently because of it. viral popularity/
so you spawn on some beach with nothing much to your name. there are small towns dotted around with items to loot, but near the towns, are zombies.
much more dangerous, from my experience, are other players. the first time i encountered one was on my second play... i was running along the beach, and saw a pile of equipment in the middle of the road. so i went up to it, ignoring the bodies around it. pow, sniped in the head from the woods.
the second time was even more painful; i was approaching a military base (hadn't been there before) and could see two guys fighting a big group of zombies, so i ran up yelling "friendly! friendly! let me help!" so one of the guys (i realize afterwards, pk'ers have a different skin) says he has a blood bag, and needs me to give him a blood transfusion. so we go into a little shed (classic rape scenario) and i administer the blood pack, and then after he thanks me, he throws me a sweet pistol... i go into the inventory to look at it, and his two friends attack me from behind with axes.
this was good though. this game is open-world, there's nothing dictating where you must go or what you must do, and the most interesting occurances are from player interactions... if it was zombie time, would YOU save other people? or would you shoot them in the face for a can of beans? both are acceptable options.
anyways. consider it, google it, im not the only one raving about how cool it is.
arma 2 co is on sale on steam ATM, and apparently you can even combine arma 2 free with some other official pay mod and then get dayz even cheaper
