Spring-multithreaded.exe has stopped working?

Post by Steelsmasher »

"Spring-multithreaded.exe has stopped working" is the dialogue box that comes up when the map appears after loading the game.
I'm able to move the mouse for a few seconds before it appears then the game freezes and it pops up.

Windows Vista Sp1
Intel Celeron 550 2GHz
2GB RAM

I used to play spring lots and it worked perfectly 6 months prior. But now it has this problem.
I've already updated my drivers and tried reinstalling everything. I've set all the graphics to be as low as possible too.
And I'm not sure how to do the infolog.txt thing, so if you need it can someone please explain it to me thanks.

after clicky on "Post Reply" on this site, you'll go down till you see the "Submit" button, and then you go down just a little bit more, and ther you see the "Filename" field. next to that, there is a "Browse..." button, on which you click.
then browse to the folder where you have installed spring, and you will find infolog.txt.

Code: Select all

[f=0000000] Error: MT with 1 threads
LOL! You should run the regular spring.exe instead. Multithreaded is designed for those multi-core CPUs.

Code: Select all

[f=0000000] GL renderer: Intel 965/963 Graphics Media Accelerator
[f=0000000] [FarTextureHandler] Warning: framebuffer not valid!
[f=0000000] Error: This stack trace indicates a problem with your graphic card driver. Please try upgrading or downgrading it. Specifically recommended is the latest driver, and one that is as old as your graphic card. Make sure to use a driver removal utility, before installing other drivers.
But it is possible that the single threaded exe will not work either since it says your graphics driver is not working like it should.

Well how do I do that?
When I launch a game in the lobby or Test Spring MT that is the version that launches.

edit:
I've manually launched the normal version and I've at least upgraded the problem from "spring-multithreaded.exe has stopped working" to "spring.exe has stopped working".

Also when you say my graphics driver is not working as it should does that mean its not capable or there is something wrong with it?
Thanks.

If you start springlobby (for multiplayer games) the single threaded version will be used by default.

Intel 965/963 Graphics Media Accelerator is probably not capable of decent gaming performance with Spring. But I cannot rule out the possibility that it would start if you try to upgrade or downgrade the driver.

I recommend that you buy a new graphics card. If your system is old, maybe upgrade the whole system instead. You need a fast CPU for big multiplayer games.

You might want to try disabling as many Spring graphics options as possible... at it's core the "baseline" system requirements haven't gone up all that much... and don't discount the advise to try different versions of your driver either... just because it "worked before" doesn't mean the guys who make your drivers didn't put in a new bug.

That said, yeah, your probably out of luck, sorry.
