LAN Party games
So, we're doing a second LAN party this year, and are trying to compile a list of games we'll play for the evening. We except there'll be 5-7 people.
Currently we're most likely to play Red Alert 3, Warcraft 3 The Frozen Throne, Age of Mythology, Half Life 1, Unreal Tournament, Quake 3, Jedi Knight.
I've tried getting people to play zk/ba but most find it too complex as they've never played it, so that's unlikely to happen.
Any suggestions from you guys? Could use a RPG that's sorta 'fast-paced' - something in the lines of Dungeon Siege 2 or so.

Duke Nukem 3D: High Resolution Pack
http://hrp.duke4.net/
You will all need to obtain and install a copy of the original game ( http://www.gog.com/en/gamecard/duke_nuk ... ic_edition ) and then install the HRP... it's a great multiplayer FPS

Re: LAN Party games
terraria is a lot of fun if you've got "weak" players (i.e. people who don't game much) who want to play co-operatively. it's an action game but certainly with RPG elements

Maybe Sins of a Solar Empire would be cool.

Re: LAN Party games
for FPS, try Farcry.. its seriously amazing for 6-10 people.
Freedom Force - build your own superhero then duel 4 way - is pretty fun for a while
Alien VS Predator 2 rocks.

Nuclear Dawn is an absolute blast, cannot recommend enough.
Re: LAN Party games
my god magicka is a wonderful idea, I had so much fun watching totalbiscuits multiplayer magicka vids.
Re: LAN Party games
Easily the favourite LAN game with my group, I cannot recommend this game enough. (Try playing as light predator and restricting yourself to only using the disk)1v0ry_k1ng wrote:Alien VS Predator 2 rocks.
I am a little surprised you would pick C&C 3 over Zero Hour, which imo is easily the best of the series for local multiplayer, especially if the group has mixed RTS experience.
Sins of a Solar Empire is a fantastic game, but a single session can rival Civilization for the amount of time it takes to complete; that's pretty much the only downside of the game imo.
Counterstrike 2D can be a great quick game to play during downtime/between epic RTS ffas or whatever.
If your venue has a strong enough connection, you could all download APB, which is free, and play that online as a group. It is a pretty average game to play solo, but if you are with a group on voice or locally, it can become a lot of fun. It's a pretty substantial download, so I would recommend grabbing it before attending the LAN if you plan to play it.
Finally, if you are playing with WC3 mods, there is a really cool "defense of Helm's Deep" mod for ~8 players that I cannot remember the name of, or be bothered to look up

Re: LAN Party games
meh always had a problem with AVP lagging in LAN, even with a recently purchased 1GBit switch
Re: LAN Party games
Is that with AVP2, the old Sierra game, not the modern "AVP"?gajop wrote:meh always had a problem with AVP lagging in LAN, even with a recently purchased 1GBit switch
Re: LAN Party games
the old one of course
Re: LAN Party games
Any of the Serious-Sam games are great for co-op Doom-style FPS action.
For a Spring RTS, look at Kernel Panic. It's got a much nicer learning curve than BA or Zero-K.
For UT and Quake 3, don't forget mods.
For UT, get U4E. Most absurd weaponmod ever.
For Quake 3, I've always been a fan of the Superheros mod.

You forget the most important HL1 mod of all:

Re: LAN Party games
Problem is, that if you don't have good RTS experience you'll get raped in KP very very fast, repeatedly, by someone who just gets the basics. And you won't even get to build cool base structures before dying like in a more complex game.Pxtl wrote:For a Spring RTS, look at Kernel Panic. Re: LAN Party games
nah, if i could manage to persuade them to play a spring game it would've probably been ZK/BA or Spring Tanks (seems simple)
but as most of them haven't even played TA nor SC, it probably wouldn't be that fun - both ZK and BA are really complex and knowledge makes a huge difference - i could probably win in a 1v5 game or something
hmm, HL and Q3 mods, I was planing on getting some WC3 maps, but I didn't think of that! will see how it works

Re: LAN Party games
Arena Wars is a neat unconventional RTS and you only need one copy for LAN play (the other installs will start up in demo mode but can join the game started by the one with the disc).
Diablo 2 was a good LAN game too.

Its been awhile since I played warzone 2100 but its open source now and actively developed. It might be more in depth then I remember but I remember it being pretty fun to just mess around with all the different combos of vehicles and being pretty easy to get into.

Re: LAN Party games
For rts you might consider Evo. It's pretty simple to get the hang of it (considering that the entire idea is building stuff and sending it off to die
. Even moreso now with the latest version as I slowed down the pace a good bit.
For super simple rts, hiverise might be an option. It has hardly any depth, but in a group setting might be entertaining.
