Need chassis idea for a tank turret

Post by Karl »

Well I just made this today,
http://www.abload.de/gallery.php?key=qh624aYX
Yet I am running slowly out of ideas what chassis it could have.

Ans my question is

Does anybody know a good hi-tech/futuristic tank concept/whatever that it could fit for this turret?

It looks heavy.. so you can either try to create something massive.. or something Manifolded, that is running on a thousand legs, and by this way is able to resist the recoil forces involved.

Also browse the zoo. Animals come in many shapes and forms, and some of the most original robots of TA were Animal inspired(Fido comes to mind)

Uhm It is not really like that I am going to make a TA mod

The only weapon it has is it's gattling cannon on the middle
the rest are just for decoration,

also I said tanks and not ugly mechas.

When I need ideas for what something should look like, I try to break it down into technical components. Things that the vehicle might use to actually work, and things that represent what the purpose of the vehicle is.

So think about things like power supplies, where the engine is, is your vehicle going to be lightly armoured or heavy?

For example some modern tanks have explosive reactive armour (where a directional explosive will propel projectiles in the opposite direction upon contact) so this could be represented in blocks of c4 protruding from the chassis.

If it's meant to be a fast vehicle you may want to consider air resistance and make it a little bit more streamlined.

As for an overall style, have a look at other's concept art for some inspiration, and then draw some stuff on paper. I tend to draw everything on paper first, and re do it until I'm happy before I even begin modelling.

It is a weird-ass turret that looks like something scratched together from spare civilian parts as a last-ditch attempt to stop some evil invaders. Of course, most of that impression is the strange-looking cabin on the turret's left, which makes it look like a crane, not a weapon.

So i would imagine its chassis being of similar build - something ex-civilian just drafted into the military use; a chassis of construction crane or excavator, with whatever armor available just bolted on top, and then whole thing thrown into action. So the original civilian hydraulics would have been bolted with the huge-ass weapon scavenged from captured enemy parts, or from spare supplies on a bombed factory line.

what it really looks like it is made out of scrap metals? D:

Dammit this means I have to redo this whole rotary auto
cannon turret and find somehow that it looks futuristic and not made out of ex-civilian era or so.
And the "Cabin" thing it is not a cabin it is uhh Decoration! Just a decoration hehe and the only weapon is a gatling nothing else hrrmpf

I think I have wrong imagination for future/sci-fi design

I had that on mind and I tried to model that as close as possible then later making a second model out of it to add more details - the turret only not the chassis because I dont really like it

oh wow thanks for such many technical details O_o well yes I look into that *looks on random enginnering book*.
Well I will look if I can then with your info adding more details on it thanks.

make a short, small tracked vehicle pulling your turret on a 12-wheel trailer; like an artillery piece

it looks a bit like an AA gun, maybe that's what it's for... they have little cars to drive them out of storage when the base is attacked by planes

i.e http://i.imgur.com/iF2HL.jpg if this were pulled by a halftrack or something

That sounds horrendous to script.

I don't think so it would be just split to 2-3 objects and somehow connected with some few Y rotation

at KaiserJ:
actually this weapon/tank isn't supposed to be an AA weapon even when it looks like, but the URL you posted I could use this as an SDI like vehicle, thanks.
