References Wanted

Post by SanadaUjiosan »

I'm trying to model some kind of jeep or truck with some anti-air missiles on the back. I'm less interested with the missiles and their launcher, I can have some fun with that.

I'm interested in any kind of references I could have with some cool military jeep/truck designs. Can be real/modern or fictional.

All I keep finding are things that look like Hummers, and I want to veer away from that. I figure there's a lot of people here with a lot more knowledge about military vehicles, any suggestions would be great :-)

I am remodeling a unit, this is the current model (to give people a general direction of what I'm looking for):

I feel like firing the missiles would send that jeep flying

Why? They're effectively just sitting on a rail.

It would be fun to strap the missiles to the rail and fire them all simultaneously while accelerating down a freeway. It would be like Kamakazi but even more awesome!

Not quite a jeep, but has AA missiles:

Some lighter Soviet-era stuff (this is actually an AA launcher)

(those two actually carry anti-tank missiles, not AA, but still suitable)

Those carry unguided rockets and aren't strictly military designs, but cool too:

(hardly anyone can beat those rebels when it comes to mounting any kind of weapon on a jeep or pickup truck, especially a weapon not suited for such small vehicles)

Yuritch, you hit the nail on the head! This was perfect!

This is what I came up with. I like it, has a good shape to it. You can't see it but there's a spare tire on the back

4 AA missile launchers, and a anti-cruiser laser mounted on top (the two weapons rotate independently of eachother)

Missiles on a rail like that generally don't recoil the platform as the tubes are open in the back.

anti-cruiser laser mounted on top
the weapon to be used against the largest targets is the smallest?

Karl they are GI joe toys from the late 1980s. i've still got some of them in a box somewhere... there was a point i think where they spoiled the designs by making them too colorful; the earlier gi joe vehicles had more realistic paint schemes akin to military vehicles; these days we have tanks with racing stripes and florescent-toned missiles

i remember cutting a lot of lawns to save for this one

Image

a lot of the designs would work pretty well in an RTS... interesting and varied vehicle shapes

edit: heres a link to a really ugly website with a list of all of the early ones i remember http://www.gijoepit.com/indexa.html

Omg, 1996 web design comes back with vengeance!

That is a cool site Kaiser. I'm not a fan of GI Joe personally, but they do seem to have a lot of varied designs.
