The question that actually counts is: Is humanity actually less buggy and more stable without religion? I guess the answer to that was found. No. Even if you abolish it, that group of the population that needs it to not go MentHell recreate it, by worshipping a dictator, some abstract concept without proof or similar. So the local optimum is to have it around, but keep it in check. Bonus points if you can keep them away from sience annd buisy with worthless moraldiscussions, like when is drinking sin or is it sin to want your neighboors donkey...
