firefox middle click not working
stupid shitty firefox crashed and wont accept middle clicks to open links in new tabs. it wont accept even ctrl click. tried restart, reinstall, extension reinstall, smashing keyboard, yelling at screen, and now raging on forums.
Re: firefox middle click not working
Cleared out the Registry? Also more rage.
Re: firefox middle click not working
Try URL: about:config
then filter "middle" -> should all be default (true)
btw: super tip: set "middlemouse.contentLoadURL" to false to disable super annoying open-url-if-I-middle-click-paste on background.
... oh... that applies to Linuxers only... it's the most annoying thing ever: I copy a password, then want to paste it with middle-click, but miss the entry field, hit the background, FF tries to open the "URL" -> doesn't succeed -> opens google with my password as search term -> me screaming

What version?
I'm still on 3.x because if I'd wanted chrome I would have installed it.

i was on 3.x until recently too, now i am mostly on 5 or 6, also was on 4 for a short time. i agree that 3.x is more worthwhile. especially performance wise, if you have a lot of tabs open, the new versions suck! i have to restart the browser every few hours.

Y U NO EXPAND MEMORIEZ???
On a serious note, I really like the newest firefoxes, however, yes, it does tend to bog down after a while. I love FF like no other, but whenever I start chrome I am jealous of how smoothly it runs.
However, chrome has some downsides that I Do. Not. Like.

Re: firefox middle click not working
While using NoScript is often a hassle (it gets better after a while), it does definitely keep FF calm even with >30 tabs. It's not the HTML rendering that eats the CPU, it's the JS.

Re: firefox middle click not working
Well, that's kinda the problem, because chrome doesn't ahve this issue that I am aware of. Also, chrome sync uses your google account. Every time I deal with firefox sync I'm jealous of chrome's syncing feature.
Re: firefox middle click not working
Got it fixed after some epic forum searches: my greasemonkey and tab mix plus extensions dont work together with ff 6.0.1
The culprit: autoupdate
If it aint broke, dont fix it! With the axiom that there is no bug-free software: updates dont reduce the number of bugs, they replace known bugs with unknown ones.

Re: firefox middle click not working
I think i had this issue too for a while, either an update or some googleing solved it. I am liking the new firefoxes, but on the laptop I use chrome cause I want it to run fast.
Re: firefox middle click not working
One thing I liked in the new firefoxes was the right click option to search for selected text or open it as a link. Is there a plugin for this?
Re: firefox middle click not working
What's Chrome lacking these days that FF has anyway? Most the cases I've come across where FF users won't switch to Chrome is because Chrome "doesn't have this or that feature/plugin", when most of the time it's been due to the person not being bothered to even look for the plugin.
Chrome has a pretty huge app store now and most the popular addons for Firefox now exist for Chrome too. I stayed with FF for a while too until equivalent extensions were released for Chrome, simply because it's just a smoother browser in looks and performance.

Re: firefox middle click not working
thanks dansan, for the NoScript tip. that really seems to help a lot!
why would you use chrome and not chromium?
Chrome = Chromium(open-source) + Google specific additions
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chromium_(web_browser)
as can be read there, one of Googles additions is usage-tracking.
