Suggestion: swap the Ravager and the Reaper

Post by Pxtl »

The Ravager is an odd unit - halfway between an assault unit and a raider - it can push into the heart of the enemy base after shrugging off some light defenses and outrun most of the skirmishers coming to the rescue. It has as much in common with heavily-armored raiders like the Kodachi than it does with other assault units... and this is a problem for new players starting out.

I've frequently heard newbies stuck on only the base factories ask what to use for assaults. They're basically stuck with only the Zeus. Being able to mix in Reapers for more range and damage-dealing into their Zeus teams would be a good thing.

Having one big expensive heavy late-game unit (but one that's simple to use) would be good for newbies.

It would also help reverse the current situation where the tank factory is really just the Advanced Vehicle Factory.

Idk, the tank factory already has 2 units halfway between fast assault and raider, kodachi and panther.

I think the Ravager is superior to the reaper. Almost the same cost to HP ratio. Better DPS for cost, faster with just slightly lower range.
Being 3-4 four targets instead of 1 is better against infiltrators and such while they are worse against ticks and thoose area stuff thingies

Ravager just doesn't pack enough power into a small enough area to really punch a choke point the way a full assault-unit needs to. Also, since you need larger numbers and it has such poor acceleration and manoeverability, it will fall all over itself in the kinds of groups that will be hitting that choke and its swift speed becomes worthless.

It's a fantastic unit, but when a newb asks "I need a unit that I can spend an assload of money on and crash into little porcy patch" they have only the Zeus.

The ravager is powerful, but not newb-friendly for assaults. That's why I suggest the swap with the Reaper - the Reaper isn't exactly rocket-surgery.

But Lucky's quite right - it would mean there's a lot of heavy raider / light assault units in the Tank lab.

We didnt put these mega-units in the 'Noob' factories for a reason. Noobs tend to rush to the biggest things they can get their hands on, assuming they are the 'best'. In truth, dumping your cash on a horde of ravagers is still one of the hardest things to beat in the game. Vehicles are out of vogue right now, i know, but they are still an amazing factory. If there is a problem with which units noobs have access too, we will change the factories they have, not the unit lineup.

The reasons to change the factories units is if one factory is particularly hurting, or lacking a role. Tank can certainly do with some lighter units, but as stated, already has two in the ravagers weight range and role. I'd rather buff the panther (and the Koda still doesnt feel quite right and may need work). Vehicle has no real problems with porc, with the ravager being incredibly versatile, two very strong artillery types, having the slasher and the gator which is exceptional against defenses if micro'd (Get it close and it powers down anything).

Yes, the ravager has troubles with particularly tight choke points, but in any open field, you can just drive them right through defenses and out the other side.
