WWII medical experiments performed by Japan and Germany

Ok, now that I have your attention.

In wwII many medical experiments were performed by the Japanese and the Germans. I have read time and time again that modern medicine greatly benefited from it.

However, I do not know what these benefits are nor do I know the experiments that led to these breakthroughs. In my opinion as a potential benefactor to the unwilling and cruel sacrifices, I should be aware of what made it possible.

So is there a good ENGLISH text that can tell what experiments gave us what procedures and knowledge?

Would be nice to know.

I dont think any usefull "breakthroughs" came out of torturing people to death.

Also, the only thing the Japanese discovered during their wartime "experiments" related to secks, and they didn't even discover tentacles until the 80s.

I think most of the "useful" discoveries were weapon related. I don't think they got much medicinal value out of any of that research.

IIRC much of what we know about hypothermia was gained from these atrocities.

The Nazis did do research about how long it takes people to die after being submerged in ice water. Apparently, this is useful for hypothermia prevention (or something). Try as I might, I couldn't find a source more credible than Wikipedia for the actual research information (even though a lot of more dependable sources do mention that the experiments did occur and that the data has been used in the field).

i was said the same, that nazis experiments brought breakthrough in medicine. well, i can belive that, in the end when u got thousands of ppl, and u can do whatever u want with them, there is a lot of opportunities to do things u could never do before coz of moral/legal issues. obviously, its hard to find much info about such things but i personally belive that.

(btw, there is not much difference between nazi experiments and cancer 'breakthrough' (experiments on pregnant women without their knowledge))

This article says that the Germans conducted euthanasia, obedience to authority and conformity experiments, experiments regarding reactions to extreme temperatures. It also discusses some of the ethics involved in utilizing the findings of these experiments.

It also states that, "Nazi data and the claims of Nazi science in areas such as genetics, physiology, pathology, anthropology, and psychiatry have in the past been studied, cited, and absorbed into mainstream science with little comment." So we've already been learning about the results of Nazi experiments without knowing how they were obtained.

There is a quote in that article that is not from it's author and it is one I find myself agreeing with.

"Nor, however, should we let the inhumanity of such experiments blind us to the possibility that some "good" may be salvaged from the ashes."

The author on the other hand reacts to the quote poorly:

"It is easy to see the futility of advocating the data's use when the intended benefit to society is trivial and moderate. Conversely, if the intended benefit is to save lives, most would agree that the data should be used."

Basically saying that no benefit is better than any benefit, which I find quite irrational. Not that I expected any other assessment from an "ethical" analysis.

Sure you will find reference to those kz-doctors in many medical research papers.
Now for real, thos experiments were mostly endurance tests, of military value (how many minutes is a person concieus if loosing its oxygen mask in that and that height) but of little medical value (curing people was there least interest)

Ironically naci germanys sience suffered greatly, from all those great jewish scientists escaping (Einstein, Freud etc. - friends among refugees convinced Openheimer to start the Manhatten project)
While having brilliant engineers, german sience during ww2 was actually stagnating, and in some areas rather collapsing due to ideologic triumphing over reason. (Hilter was against nuclear research, believing it would cause "Weltenbrand", setting the very atoms on a fire, that could not be extinquished)

Others dug out a obsolete physics theory "KaltEis" discarding that evidence based particle-physiks for obscure sience like the idea that space was filled with Ice.

They lost for a reason, the reason beeing stupidity of there leadership, idocy in ther ideology, inability to decentralise decisions and last but not least for beeing evil assholes.
