Can't see mods/games

Post by FireStorm_ »

I preferably use TASclient to play on-line and somewhat stay in touch with my clan and game-devs.
I preferably use springlobby to play singleplayer and quickly test my own creations.

Perhaps I haven't been paying attention to some current developments, but I have a problem:

Both lobbies don't show (some of the) the mods/games I placed in the \spring\mods directory.
(for some reason there is one in \Documents too, but I don't care for that one)
And what I even appreciate less, is mods/games showing up that are not in that map at all. :|

This keeps me from work I'm willing to do (and said I would do) for others.
I can't realylearn about a game that doesn't showup

I'm pretty much a user-end person, and quite noobish on some issues. Is there maybe someone who could provide an explanation or advise?

when mods lack some stuff, they are not recognized as valid mods, and this should be shown in infolog.txt.

Thanks guys, but that's not it. I can hardly imagine some mainstream mods lacking this stuff btw. It is more a constant or reoccurring problem, witch I've decided to (try to) deal with for a change.

It might be possible that the reason and solution is similarly simple, I have been known to be that foolish :-) , but it eludes me atm. (perhaps its my OS, but i don't know)

Any other possible reasons come to mind? Perhaps beyond Spring?

Guess you're right, but don't know what else to provide...
(Except the semi embarrassing Vista, cause I couldn't be bothered to make mayor changes after buying my computer.)

Vista does wacky-mc-crappy things to files... I once saw one file in Explorer and a different file in GIMP... Vista UAC is CRAZY!!!!

My suggestion:

Install portable spring in a UAC excepted folder on the root of a drive (like "C:\Spring\" or whatever)... this should solve most common Vista "files are there but not really there" issues.

Ah, yes. Did some reading and I suspect the UAC is indeed the problem.
I almost had become used to giving myself permission lots of times.
Tanks, and I'll try your suggestion, probably tomorrow, and report back the result when I have.

Learned a little about ownership and permission and made some changes.
And I updated all my stuff related to spring. It works now.
Suspect it was just me being confused or to lazy/tired.
(still don't get why mods show up in lobby while not in dir, but no matter I guess)
(anyway, thanks for your attention and advise guys)

Not sure if you heard, but also try ZK Lobby if you have a chance. it's specially designed for more noobish users such as you describe yourself.
