Use the spring ppa and tell springlobby to use
/usr/games/spring-multithreaded
.
You can set in "Edit > Preferences > Spring > Spring executable".

Hope I had helped you.

I can't check this right now because i am setting up a new computer - with more cores, even! :-)

I assume this to be correct. It is great that the mt version is included and so easy to use. Thank you very much for this information. I must say I looked and looked and couldn't find even a hint of this anywhere else.

Trying to play Zero-K (which slows to a crawl after 20 minutes in single-thread).
Any idea on what I have to do to get it working on my setup?

Ubuntu 10.10 x64
Nvidia 9600 GT with current drivers
Quad Core
8GB Ram
Spring, Springlobby, and Zero-K are all current.
In MT, the buildings don't render. Any thoughts?

^ That (and other *A mods)

More specifically, I believe ZK uses lua-based normal map shaders for its units which MT is not compatible with. About the later game lag, it is probably caused by current pathfinding problems, and seems to be much improved in newer spring versions. So, you mostly just need to wait for a new spring release, then ST should work fine :|. Hopefully we will eventually see a release of a more lua-compatible MT.
