What happened to that new model innitiative?
I remember a while back there was a lot of loud talk about replacing these old shitty 3dos. Was it the standard blow hard shit or is something still being done?
Re: What happened to that new model innitiative?
Beherith made a pile of incredisexy kbot models. Iirc, Nixa took over the project, but she's bundling it into her rebalancing effort. So it's changed hands a bit and gotten some effort, but it's kind of rocky.
Re: What happened to that new model innitiative?
Nixa is him. At least physically.
Re: What happened to that new model innitiative?
Oh? I'd heard Nixa was female at some point... my bad.
Re: What happened to that new model innitiative?
so pretty much died. I swear so many people here have a bout 1 day of motivation and that is their limit. I am disapoint
Re: What happened to that new model innitiative?
What bugs me isn't the contributers that have 1 day of motivation, but the project runners. The "I want to make something awesome can I have some volunteers?"smoth wrote:so pretty much died. I swear so many people here have a bout 1 day of motivation and that is their limit. I am disapoint
Beherith made some absolutely beautiful models for this effort... and I don't think you can play with them in any game yet. The guy that was supposed to take his models and repackage them into a nice BA clone dropped the project.
I shit ideas left-right-and centre here, but I don't make promises. I know I don't have the motivation to actually *do* anything.
Re: What happened to that new model innitiative?
that is what pisses me off, people post ideas seem all excited and then drop them when it becomes actual effort. I get very frustrated watching people nouncin their mods and then disappearing in shame.
Re: What happened to that new model innitiative?
Beherith's models are not used cause they got no scripts?

Nice job!
I'm sorry for the troll-post, but, in this case, it was entirely deserved, imo.

My t2 is halted for the moment, Im waiting on my graphics tablet to arrive.
Ive toyed with the idea of procedurally generating s3os from the 3dos, but the immense scale of the project, along with some of the optimizations I have planned make this more than a night of heavy coding.
Edit: There never was anyone who said he would take up BAR, though nixa made some nice strides. But I disagree with any balance changes being made that deviate from BA in BAR.
Procedurally just creating the s3os wouldnt be all that much of an issue, but the fact that I wish to run some AO bakes over the generated s3os, it unfortunately increases the texture space requirements by a whole lot. I realize it may be unfeasible to make the required approx. 512*512 textures for every unit in BA (400).
A quick napkin calculation places that figure in the 200 megapixel range - which will result in both an obscenely large mod file as well as requiring a 512 meg video card.

Re: What happened to that new model innitiative?
even so behe, you cannot take on the world. Where are all the other people who were supposed to be doing this?
Re: What happened to that new model innitiative?
i'm working on an army intended to serve the role of a TA faction using texture atlasing. it's more of a long term project. i have about 1/2 of a TA faction made of my lego models that could serve as a second faction.
"remodelling total annihilation" is a sore spot for many. every model is either too much like the original or not enough like the original. every model has either too much detail or not enough detail.
i've asked repeatedly for model claims by lab for BA:R and nobody has come forward with even a single new model let alone a set.
trying to form a productive team is a painful process. i'm only doing models and game stuff for fun so i'd rather just work on more of a solo type effort, and contribute directly to the people who show enthusiasm/interest for what i'm up to, rather than try to please everyone.
and still, i know next to nothing about scripting, so that's going to be a pretty painful process, even with lots of script copypasta.

Re: What happened to that new model innitiative?
I realize the fact that doing this alone is near futile. But I also see that there is near noone here who would be interested in doing a lot of this work.
What Ive quickly learned though, is that the constant naysayers and destructive, unproductive criticizers can be completely ignored without repercussions. Good enough is just fine and dandy as long as there is something.

Re: What happened to that new model innitiative?
You have ample to do in EVO though kaiser. Why take on 2 projects at once?

Re: What happened to that new model innitiative?
I've already posted my feelings on the matter in the original thread, but just to add since people are discussing remodelling OTA units, stuff like Beherith's idea to bake AO onto existing models sounds awesome and there have been a few model improvements into main BA thanks to pizzi1 and of course the lups fusions.
I'm not asking anyone to do this but if anyone did want to fix up some BA units (eg. stuff like improving the style of chunky towers on arm adv fus, fixing stretched warped textures on solars, reworking the crazy patchwork texturing on core moho mines) I'd likely consider merging them into BA if they fitted the existing model set.

Re: What happened to that new model innitiative?
With the many mods, coding developments, and other projects that are good ideas but are left dead, there is a vast amount of resources that could be picked back up if people just gave out the source when they quit instead of letting it collect dust on old drive untill the HDD burns up. So many hours could be saved if people just though about sharing, instead of running away.
Re: What happened to that new model innitiative?
Well, even then sometimes the giveaways don't get picked up. Didn't Smoth give the CA boys the Spring Tower Defense stuff? I played a nice alpha-version of it they made... but haven't heard a thing about it since.
Re: What happened to that new model innitiative?
quantum plans on resuming it soonish. Last I talked to him that is what I heard from him. He just is doing some stuff right now.
Re: What happened to that new model innitiative?
I'm just waiting for models, I've done all that I can in terms of implimenting what I could find and fluffing around a bit. At this stage theres only 30ish new models, of which some are just updates using 3do format.
But no one is modelling, and I have interest in modelling, so it will be very slow work. I believe Cremuss is making his new work public soon, might update it a bit when that happens.
Though imho, the BA community is a waste of time (and space
