BA II Goals + Nominations
This thread is to inform whoever is interest in BA II in the progress so far. As most know Regret has left, and I have since finished implimenting the new models and some new effects into BA (under a different name thanks to please the neonazi's -.-'). I am after a team of modellers to help increase the pace of this project and to outline some priorites
1) Form modelling team, those must be willing to work together rather than individually
2) Remodel all T1 vechs/bots and some eco structures. Aiming for a release version (using original BA balance) in 1-2 months.
3) Gain player-base, and begin specific unit balance tweaks (keeping true to the core structure of BA)
4) Finish the majority of important models in 6 months.
As such, I will be requiring both a team of modellers and a balance crew. The balance crew will consist of 5 people from 5 classes outlined below:
Large game balancer
Small game balancer
Unit specific role balancer
Mixture of all 3 above
Person who has experience with alot of mods
The balance process will be a majority rules system where each of the 5 has a vote. This should help streamline BA Reloaded development as well as give input from all aspects of the current community. It should also give all BA players an idea who to voice their concerns to in terms of balance

Yes, this is essentially a renewal of that project as it died when Regret left.

I'm willing to help with modeling, however if you want teamwork and consistency among modelers there NEEDS to be a concept artist. Not only will that help keep everyone following proper design guidelines, but (speaking for myself) it will yield much faster results.

Or another possibility would be to create a new texture set for both factions, or sections within the factions. This should create consistancy within the textures at least - which are the underlying part of unit variation currently

I can help with balance, I'll need to learn how to actually make the changes

What makes you think you need to make many new models to replace BAs models. Also you seem to have left out sound replacement.

Kanoba made an excellent remake of all the sounds.

I've began fiddling with sounds (I've tried alot of kanoba's but alot don't fit or don't end up well when down-sampled). This isn't going to be a IP free project so most of the good sounds will stay. As for the models, not all need replacing, but most do.

I'm not talking about whether they need replacing. My point is a fair portion of the models can be replaced by already made ones. If you don't care about no longer looking like a TA clone you could even replace all of them.
For sound I don't think Kanoba covers everything.

Oh I see what you mean and sure, but different is always not better, and if it ends up looking like a mash of models then that wouldn't be an improvement

in my eyes, it would be better to keep new models & sounds in one project, and have balance tweaks in an other one.
as i get it, the files for these two things are separate, so you could easily release BA remodeled - original balance & BA remodeled - new balance at any time of the remodeling process, which will guarantee you more users overall.
Maybe make the units/ folder a separate VCS sub-repository, and give the balance team only access to that.
Do not know if this approach has problems (as i know little about mod structure and SVN (i guess you will be using that)).

Dunno, that's a not so straightforwarder win win situation. You could also easily split the already relatively small playerbase and therefore gain disrespect for the whole undertaking. I prefer one solid piece. Keeping the gameplay changes small wont scare away loyals to BA. TFC is doing them in every update. Also, he is doing another BA fork and splitting this in two would mean 3 BA forks. Oh, and GJ Nixa. Seems like a good plan. However, I'd like to see one goal, ultimately, to become IP-free as it is important for the advertisement of the mod.

I would enjoy being involved in this project along balance/fbi tweaking lines, some BA fanbois may object to my opinions on balance tho

For balance, I am up too. Someone need to counter balance jaz for his will to make anygame ba game an only-stump-game anyway... :p

I'm actually quite fair and discrete about balance changes tbh, I wouldn't be some kind of mass modifying pirate.

bladwings would cost twice as much and move half as fast and build twice as slow and be half as effective.
